Steve Evans teaches creative writing. He writes poetry, prose and nonfiction, is a literary editor for an international journal, and prose editor for an Australian journal. Steve has been on organising committees for seven literary festivals, writer-in-residence internationally several times, and on arts funding and literary prize panels.

He has published nine poetry collections, a book of short stories, and edited or co-authored eleven other books. He has also won or been shortlisted for various national and international prizes. Easy Money (short stories) was released in 2019, Unearthly Pleasures (poetry) in 2021, and Animal Instincts (poetry) in 2023.

  • Awarded various prizes including the Queensland Premier's Poetry Award, Gawler Poetry Prize, Union Arts Poetry Prize, Union Arts Fiction Prize, Poetry Unplugged Prize, New England Poetry Prize, and a Barbara Hanrahan Fellowship.
  • Short-listed for the Jessie Lichfield Prize, Anne Elder Prize, Adelaide Festival of Arts John Bray Poetry Award, Canberra National Short Story Competition, Max Fatchen Short Story Award, Adelaide Review Short Fiction Competition, Salisbury Writers' Festival Fiction Prize, the Whitmore Press Manuscript Prize, and the Penguin Unpublished Novel Literary Prize..
