What is a SET?

SET stands for Student Evaluation of Teaching. SETs are online surveys, containing likert and open ended (text response) questions, which evaluate and deliver student feedback on topics and teachers.

What is the purpose of SET?

The primary purpose of Student Evaluation of Teaching is to provide staff with valid and reliable information with which to make informed decisions about improving student learning outcomes.

Can I access a test or training version of the system?

Yes! To access the training environment please visit:

SET Test/Training Environment

Please feel free to play around in this environment since surveys generated will not be released to students. To make sure that you are in the training environment, you can check to see if the words 'TEST ENVIRONMENT' are at the top of the screen.

What about training and support?

A number of training sessions have been planned to help users familiarise themselves with the new system. A full listing of training sessions are available.

If you require further assistance please contact your local SET Support Officer in the first instance, otherwise queries can be referred to Planning Services by emailing set@flinders.edu.au.

How will students know when they need to complete a SET survey?

SET surveys are administered online. Students receive a SET student survey invitation (PDF 171KB) and reminder emails which include the log on web address set.flinders.edu.au.

Students can also access surveys in FLO by clicking on the Student Evaluation of Teaching link under Topic Links.

Which students will be able to access SET surveys online? What about if they have withdrawn from the topic?

Students who are enrolled in the topic on the survey open date will be able to access the survey. It will be important that the Topic Coordinator or support staff review the survey open and close dates and think carefully about the timing of the survey.

How can I achieve a good survey response rate?

Talk to your students about the SET. Let them know that the survey is open and they should have recently received an email containing the log on web address set.flinders.edu.au. Let them know that their feedback is important to you and how you use that feedback to improve topic delivery and teaching. Teaching staff are also encouraged to make use of the Promoting the SET in class resources.
