Archives and records management

The University Archives forms part of the Policy and Secretariat Unit and is responsible to the Registrar for the preservation of vital records, the efficient storage and retrieval of information, and the appropriate disposal of official records. Archive procedures are subject to the provisions of the State Records Act proclaimed in 1997 for the preservation and management of official records.

Transfer/Retrieval of records

The University has adopted, with minor amendment, State Records General Disposal Schedules for the disposal of our general administrative records. In addition a Student Records Disposal Schedule (DOC 112KB) has been produced.

Whilst the Archives will accept all records worthy of permanent preservation, other records which have lengthy retention periods may be deposited in the Archives pending destruction.

The Archives Manager is available for advice and assistance and should be contacted before any records are prepared for transfer to the Archives.

The Archives Store is located within the Joint Library Store complex off Physical Sciences Road. Access to the Archives Store is only available by contacting the Archives Manager.
