POLICY

The Staff Award for Outstanding Contribution to Flinders University recognises the outstanding contributions of individual staff to the University.

The granting of an award shall be approved by the Awards Committee and reported to Council.

Each award shall be presented to the recipient by the Chancellor at a Conferring of Degrees Ceremony or at another appropriate public University function.

Recipients of the award will receive a certificate, a citation and a medal. The award will be conferred as a significant honour and only a small number of awards, normally no more than five, will be granted in any one year.

Eligibility for the Awards

Recipients of the award must be current employees, or holders of full academic status, of the University or former employees or holders of full academic status who have retired in the 12 months prior to the approval of an award.

Recipients must have been employed or have held full academic status continually for a minimum of five years with the University.

Previous recipients are not eligible for a further award.

The Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Executive Deans of Faculties, University Librarian, Registrar and the Executive Director of Administration are excluded from receiving an award.

Criteria

The award will be conferred in recognition of: (a) a sustained and positive impact on the University community or environment; (b) a standard of service regarded as excellent and beyond that expected of the nominee as part of the normal duties and level of contribution for his or her position; and (c) outstanding personal qualities shown by the nominee in his or her approach to work and/or other members of the University community, such as: a high level of integrity and ethical conduct, a sense of responsibility, and generosity of spirit.

Procedures

Each year the Registrar, in consultation with the Vice-Chancellor, will arrange for staff of the University to be invited to submit, in confidence, nominations for the Staff Award for Outstanding Contribution to Flinders University.

Nominations will be made on the standard form and include a clear statement of a nominee's contribution to the University, and will address the criteria listed above. The nomination form must bear the signature of the nominator, at least two supporters and the nomineeÕs supervisor.

All nominations will be referred to the Awards Committee for consideration. For the purpose of considering nominations for the Staff Award for Outstanding Contribution to Flinders University, the Executive Director of Administration and the Librarian will be invited to attend the Awards Committee as voting members.

Once an award has been approved, the nominee will be invited to indicate his or her willingness to accept the award. An award will remain confidential until the nominee has accepted the award.

The Registrar will approve the wording of the Certificate and Citation for the award.
