Alana and Zane Shahin Prize for Human Rights Law

The name of the prize shall be the Alana and Zane Shahin Prize for Human Rights Law.
The value of the prize shall be up to $250.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3033 Human Rights; and (c) has the highest mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.
Mr Shawki Shahin undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in 2003.

Alana and Zane Shahin Prize for International Criminal Law

The name of the prize shall be the Alana and Zane Shahin Prize for International Criminal Law.
The value of the prize shall be up to $250.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW2108 International Criminal Law; and (c) has the highest mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.
Mr Shawki Shahin undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in 2003.

Alderman Redman Family Law Prize

The value of the prize shall be up to $250.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3048 Family Law; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.

The Ann Flaxman Prize in English

The sum of $1,000 having been paid to the University by Mrs CH Bright in memory of her mother, Mrs Ann Flaxman, the following rules shall apply to the annual prize provided by this endowment.

The Ann Flaxman Prize in English shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of English.
The value of the prize shall be $500. If in any year the prize is not awarded or the income from the endowment exceeds the amount of the prize, the value of such prize or excess income shall be added to the capital of the fund.
The prize shall be awarded to the best final-year honours student in English.

The Ann Roder Prize in Old Testament

The name of the prize shall be the Anne Roder Prize in Old Testament. Anne Roder was a student, tutor and friend of the Adelaide College of Divinity and the School of Theology at Flinders University. The prize has been established by Flinders University and the Adelaide College of Divinity, in memory of Anne Roder to encourage students who, like Anne, display critical excellence in the study of the Old Testament.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
The Adelaide College of Divinity undertakes to endow this prize for a period of ten years in the first instance and it shall be renewable for periods up to ten years.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Flinders Bachelor of Theology or the ACD Bachelor of Ministry; (b) in the relevant year has enrolled in the introductory topic in Old Testament offered in both degrees; (c) has the highest total mark received in that topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Theology and the Examination Committee of the Adelaide College of Divinity (at a combined meeting) shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students enrolled in the relevant topic. If two or more students receive the same total mark in that year the prize shall be shared between those students.

The Auditor-General's Department of SA Prize in Administrative Law

The value of the prize shall be $250.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice attaining in the relevant year the highest marks in the topic LLAW2107 Administrative Law (Interviewing).
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
The Auditor-General's Department undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

The Australian Cultural Heritage Management Prize

The name of the prize shall be the Australian Cultural Heritage Management Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieved the highest grade for ARCH2003 Cultural Heritage Management.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same result, the Department of Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

Australian Executor Trustees Limited Prize for Succession and Estates Practice

The name of the prize shall be Australian Executor Trustees Limited Prize for Succession and Estates Practice.
The value of the prize shall be $750. Subject to clauss 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW5907 Succession and Estates Practice; and (c) has adjudged to have been the most outstanding in terms of academic performance in assessments related to the processes of obtaining and responding to client instructions concerning estate matters.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students adjudged to be equally outstanding, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the course as a whole, or may determine that the prize and its value be shared equally between or among the students.
Australian Executor Trustees Limited undertakes to endow this prize for a period of three years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in topics offered in the year 2007.

The Australian Insurance Law Association Prize for Advanced Contract

The name of the prize shall be The Australian Insurance Law Association Prize for Advanced Contract.
The value of the prize shall be $500.00.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who:
(a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course;
(b) in the relevant year has completed the topic Advanced Contract; and
(c) has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic or topics, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the course as a whole, or may determine that the prize and its value be shared equally between or among the students.
The Australian Insurance Law Association undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in the topic as offered in the year 2006.

The Bar Association of South Australia Prize in Criminal Law (Issues in Criminal Law)

The value of the prize shall be up to $150.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW2102 Issues in Criminal Law; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
The Bar Association undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

The Bar Association of South Australia Prize in Criminal Law (Principles of Criminal Law and Procedure)

The value of the prize shall be up to $150.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW1104 Principles of Criminal Law and Procedure; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
The Bar Association undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

The Basil Taliangis Prize in Modern Greek

The name of the prize shall be The Basil Taliangis Prize in Modern Greek.
The value of the prize shall be $200.00.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled full-time or part-time in Modern Greek at Flinders who attains the highest mark in upper level Modern Greek (Advanced Stream). The results attained in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the one year will be taken into account.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Modern Greek, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two students receiving the same highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally between them. If the Department of Modern Greek decides that no candidate is of sufficient merit for the prize in a given year, the prize will not be awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years, at the end of which a new term could be negotiated.
The prize will be awarded at Flinders in a special ceremony held during the first semester of each year.

Camatta Lempens Prize in Finance and Securities Law

The name of the prize shall be the Camatta Lempens Prize in Finance and Securities Law.
The value of the prize shall be up to the value of $300.
Subject to clauses 4, 5 and 6, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3066 Banking and Finance Law or LLAW3056 Securities Regulation; (c) has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
If in any year, both of the above topics have been taught and the Examinations Board determines that award of the prize is warranted in both topics, the prize for each topic shall be at least $150. If only one of the topics has been taught, the prize for that topic shall be up to the value of $300.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic or topics, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on a basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.
The firm of Camatta Lempens undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in topics offered in the year 2002.
For the year 2002, the prize will be for the topic COMM3038 Banking and Finance Law.

Camatta Lempens Prize in Succession and Insolvency Law

The name of the prize shall be the Camatta Lempens Prize in Succession and Insolvency Law.
The value of the prize shall be up to the value of $300.
Subject to clauses 4, 5 and 6, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3111 Succession or LLAW3068 Personal and Corporate Insolvency Law (c) has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
If in any year, both of the above topics have been taught and the Examinations Board determines that award of the prize is warranted in both topics, the prize for each topic shall be at least $150. If only one of the topics has been taught, the prize for that topic shall be up to the value of $300.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic or topics, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on a basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.
The firm of Camatta Lempens undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in topics offered in the year 2002.
For the year 2002, the prize will be for the topic LLAW3061 Current Issues in Law (Corporate and Insolvency Law).

The Comber Consulting Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Comber Consulting Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the highest GPA for their Archaeology Honours year.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same GPA for their Honours year, the Department of Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually. Comber Consulting Pty Ltd will be informed of the recipient prior to the announcement and presentation of the prize.

The Consul's Book Award for Outstanding Achievement in Italian

The name of the prize shall be The Consul's Book Award for Outstanding Achievement in Italian.
The value of the prize shall be a book to be selected by the Italian Counsul in South Australia.
Subject to clause 4, the book prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled full-time or part-time in Italian at Flinders University or at the University of Adelaide who attains the highest mark in First Year Italian (Advanced Stream). The results attained in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the one year will be taken into account.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Italian section of the Department of Languages, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students and determine whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two students receiving the same highest mark, two book prizes shall be awarded. If the Italian section decides that no candidate is of sufficient merit for the prize to be awarded in a given year, the prize shall not be awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually from 2007, for an initial period of five years.

Dean's Certificates - School of Law

The prize shall be a certificated commendation of outstanding achievement in various specified topics.
Subject to clauses 3 and 4, the Dean's Certificate prizes shall be awarded annually for topics offered by the School of Law for the student who has achieved the highest total mark in the topic that is not otherwise recognised by a named or donated prize. For these topics, the prize shall be awarded to the student who, in the relevant year has completed the topic; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their total academic record in the course of which the topic forms a part.

The Department of Archaeology Staff Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Department of Archaeology Staff Prize
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieved the best result for their Archaeology honours thesis (18 units) in each calendar year.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same result for their honours thesis, the Department of Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

Department for Correctional Services Prize for Punishment, Sentencing and the State

The name of the prize shall be the Department for Correctional Services Prize for Punishment, Sentencing and the State.
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in a Flinders University degree course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic CRIM3001 Punishment, Sentencing and the State; and (c) has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic or topics, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on a basis of their academic record in the course as a whole, or may determine that the prize and its value be shared equally between or among the students.
The Department for Correctional Services undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in the topic when offered in the year 2004.

The Department for Environment and Heritage Encouragement Prize in Cultural Tourism

The name of the prize shall be The Department for Environment and Heritage Encouragement Prize in Cultural Tourism.
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who has the most progressively improved GPA from First Year to Second Year of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism course.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Cultural Tourism, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student has the most progressively improved GPA from First Year to Second Year of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism, the Department of Cultural Tourism will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

DLA Phillips Fox Prizes in Intellectual Property

The value of the prizes will be $250 each.
The prizes will be awarded each year that the topics LLAW3063 Intellectual Property and the Arts and/or LLAW3064 Intellectual Property in Science and Technology are offered.
The prizes shall be awarded annually to the student in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice who in the relevant year receives the highest mark in the topic LLAW3063 Intellectual Property and the Arts; or LLAW3064 Intellectual Property in Science and Technology.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the prizes.
DLA Phillips Fox undertakes to endow these prizes for a period of five years, in the first instance.

DLA Phillips Fox Prize in Negotiation

The value of this prize shall be $350.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice attaining in the relevant year the most outstanding performance in the negotiation component of the topic LLAW3103 Resolving Civil Disputes (Negotiation).
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
DLA Phillips Fox undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

DLA Phillips Fox Prize for Professional English in Law

The value of the prize shall be $350.
Subject to clause 3, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice attaining in the relevant year the highest marks in the topic ENGL1011 Professional English in Law.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
Phillips Fox undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

The Ecobusiness Consultants Prize for Nonfiction

The name of the prize shall be The Ecobusiness Consultants Prize for Nonfiction.
The value of the prize shall be $300.
Subject to clause 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student who submits the best original piece of nonfiction prose, not exceeding 3000 words, which has not been accepted for publication, offered for publication or entered in any other contest until the results of this prize are known. The story can be on any topic or in any style. Students can submit up to two pieces of work each year.
All undergraduate and honours students, enrolled full-time or part-time at Flinders University, shall be eligible to submit an application based on the conditions of entry.
The Examinations Board, on the recommendation of the Department of English, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates for the prize. In addition to the prize, the Department of English shall nominate up to three highly commended entries, which shall receive a merit certificate, but do not attract prize money.
The prize shall be awarded on an annual basis and shall be sponsored for the years 2003-2005, in the first instance.
No award shall be made if the Department of English determines that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

The Ecophyte Technologies Archaeological Geophysics Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Ecophyte Technologies Archaeological Geophysics Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $100.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall result for ARCH8307 Introductory Archaeological Geophysics (6 units) in each calendar year.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same result for ARCH8307, the Department of Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded every year the topic is offered.

Edmund Barton Chambers Advocacy Shield

The name of the prize shall be the Edmund Barton Chambers Advocacy Shield.
The value of the prize shall be the initial donation of a shield (to the value of $150), suitable to include engraving bars, plus an annual prize to the value of $300.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to, and shared among, the students who: (a) are enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year have completed the topic LLAW5906 Advocacy; (c) are members of the group of students comprising the simulated firm, formed as part of the educational instruction in the topic, which group is adjudged to have been the most outstanding in terms of commitment and academic performance.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a group of students is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more such groups of students adjudged to be equally outstanding, the Board will determine that the prize and its value be shared equally between or among the groups of students.

The name of the prize shall be the Edmund Barton Chambers Prize for Lawyering.
The value of the prize shall be up to $300.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW1106 Lawyering: Procedures and Ethics; and (c) has the highest mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.

The Elizabeth Close Prize for Third Year Students of French

The name of the prize shall be The Elizabeth Close Prize for Third Year Students of French.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student in his/her final year of the three-year major in French, enrolled full-time or part-time at Flinders University, who has obtained the highest average percentage mark across Semester 1 and Semester 2 in any one academic year in the Upper Level French topics: FREN2121 and FREN2122, or FREN2123 and FREN2124, or FREN3121 and FREN3122 (the combination depends on the Upper Level topics being offered in any one year).
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the French Section of the Department of Languages, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidate(s).
In the event that more than one student receives the highest average percentage mark, the French Section of the Department of Languages, will recommend that the prize be shared between these students. The French Section of the Department of Languages reserves the right not to award the prize if it deems that there is no student of sufficient merit in a given year.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years at the end of which a new term shall be negotiated.
The prize recipient shall be announced at a special ceremony held during the first semester of each year.

The EMA Legal Prize for Labour Law

The value of this prize will be $500.
The prize will be awarded annually for the most outstanding performance in one or more practical exercises in undergraduate topics offered by the School of Law in the field of labour law.
A 'practical exercise' for this purpose means a hypothetical letter of advice; or in default of such an exercise being set in any given year, some other form of research exercise.
After consultation with the relevant topic coordinators, the Examinations Board of the School of Law will determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to receive the prize.
EMA undertakes to endow this prize for a further three years from 2006.

Fisher Jeffries Civil Litigation Prize

The value of the prize shall be $250.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years.
The prize shall be awarded to the student attaining the highest mark in the topic LLAW4103 Civil Litigation and LLAW4103A Principles of Civil Litigation.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law, on the recommendation of the relevant topic coordinator shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates.

The value of the prize shall be up to $250.
The prize shall be awarded for a initial period of five years.

The Gentilli Medal in Italian

The Gentilli Medal is a prize that has been donated by the eminent scholar Dr Joseph Gentilli to commemorate his mother Elisa, who was born in Venice in 1886.

The Gentilli Medal in Italian shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Languages.
The medal shall be awarded to the best student in Italian.

Greek Orthodox Community of SA Inc - Con Marinos AM Prize in Modern Greek

The value of the prize shall be $1000.
The prize shall be administered by the Faculty of Education, Humanities, Law and Theology.
The prize shall be awarded annually commencing 2001 for an outstanding piece of work on a subject related to Greek language or Greek studies.
Honours and postgraduate students undertaking courses offered by the Faculty of Education, Humanities, Law and Theology shall be invited to nominate for the prize based on an outstanding piece of work of not less than 4,000 words submitted during the current academic year.
Nominations for the prize shall be called for in November of the given year.
The selection committee shall consist of no more than six members and shall include two members of the academic staff of the Modern Greek section of the Department of Languages, two members with a knowledge of Modern Greek appointed by the Head of Faculty or nominee, and a representative from the Greek Orthodox Community of SA Inc. The Head of Faculty shall be the Chair of the selection committee.
The selection committee shall rank the nominated students in order of merit, by whatever criteria it decides, and determine the award of the prize. In the event of there being two or more outstanding pieces of work of equal merit, the prize would be shared equally by the candidates. No award shall be made if the selection committee determines that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

The Harvey and Grethe Brown Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Harvey and Grethe Brown Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $450 plus mentoring for 12 months with Visible Management Pty Ltd.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student with the highest grade point average (GPA) for the Graduate Diploma in Tourism (Festival and Event Design and Management).
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Cultural Tourism, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.

The Henry Salter Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Henry Salter Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
The prize will be awarded annually.
Subject to clause 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the highest mark for the Bachelor of Creative Arts/Creating Writing Honours thesis in each calendar year.
The Examination Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of English, Creative Writing and Australian Studies, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same mark the Department of English, Creative Writing and Australian Studies will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.

The Imprints Booksellers Fiction Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Imprints Booksellers Fiction Prize.
The prize shall be an Imprints book voucher to the value of $150.
The prize shall be awarded annually.
All undergraduate and honours students enrolled full-time or part-time at Flinders University shall be deemed eligible to lodge an application based on the conditions of entry.
The prize shall be awarded to an original, unpublished short story not exceeding 3000 words, which has not been accepted for publication, offered for publication or entered in any other contest until the results of this prize are known. The story can be on any topic or in any style. Students can submit up to two stories each year. Should there be no entry worthy of a prize in a given year, a prize shall not be awarded.
The Examinations Board on the recommendation of the Department of English, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates for the prize. In addition to the prize the Department of English shall nominate up to three highly commended entries, which shall receive a merit certificate but not attract prize money.

The name of the prize shall be The Imprints Booksellers Poetry Prize.
The prize shall be an Imprints book voucher to the value of $150.
The prize shall be awarded annually.
All undergraduate and honours students enrolled full-time or part-time at Flinders University shall be deemed eligible to lodge an application based on the conditions of entry.
The prize shall be awarded to the student who submits the best original, unpublished poem not exceeding fifty lines, which has not been accepted for publication, offered for publication or entered in any other contest until the results of this prize are known. The poem can be on any topic or in any form. Students can submit up to three poems each year. In the event of a tie, the prize shall be divided equally between the best two entries. Should there be no entry worthy of a prize in a given year, a prize shall not be awarded.
The Examinations Board on the recommendation of the Department of English, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates for the prize. In addition to the prize the Department of English shall nominate up to three highly commended entries, which shall receive a merit certificate but not attract prize money.

International Law Association Prize for International Trade Law and Development

The name of the prize shall be the International Law Association Prize for International Trade Law and Development.
The value of the prize shall be $300 plus, to those eligible, a one-year student membership in the International Law Association (Australian Branch).
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3109 International Trade Law and Development; and (c) has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.

The Italian Honours Prize

The Italian Honours Prize was constituted in 2002 by Margaret Baker, one of the first appointees to the Flinders Italian teaching staff. It commemorates those who were instrumental in establishing the tradition of Italian scholarship at Flinders, in particular the Adelaide Italian Community and its chief fundraiser for the establishment of the Chair in Italian, Dott Giorgio Masero, and the Foundation Professor, Antonio Comin.

The name of the prize shall be The Italian Honours Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $125.
The prize shall be awarded annually.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded to the top student who has successfully completed the Honours program and who has a classification of 2A or above.
The Examinations Board, on the recommendation of the staff in Italian who have been involved in teaching the Honours topics, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates for the prize. The prize shall not be awarded if, in the opinion of the Board, there is no applicant of sufficient merit.
If two or more students receive the same overall percentage results, their undergraduate record in Italian will also be considered.

The John Antoine Kiosoglous, MBE, KSA, AE, SM Prize in Modern Greek

The name of the prize shall be The John Antoine Kiosoglous, MBE, KSA, AE, SM Prize in Modern Greek.
The value of the prize shall be $200.00.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled full-time or part-time in Modern Greek at Flinders who attains the highest mark in upper level Modern Greek (Beginners Stream). The results attained in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the one year will be taken into account.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Modern Greek, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two students receiving the same highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally between them. If the Department of Modern Greek decides that no candidate is of sufficient merit for the prize in a given year, the prize will not be awarded.

Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3102 Corporate Law (Drafting); and (c) has the highest mark received in the drafting exercise component of the topic.

The value of the prize shall be $250.
The Law Society of South Australia has resolved to fund an annual prize of $250 to be awarded to the student graduating in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice in the relevant year with the highest grade point average, calculated according to the rules established for the honours degree, whether or not the student has been awarded honours.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the student and judge whether the student is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
The Law Society of South Australia undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance.

The McGraw-Hill Prize for First Year Advanced Students of French

The name of the prize shall be The McGraw-Hill Prize for First Year Advanced Students of French.
The prize shall consist of a McGraw-Hill book voucher valued at $200.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the best First Year Advanced Level student, enrolled full-time or part-time in French at Flinders University, who has obtained the highest average percentage mark across FREN1121 (in Semester 1) and FREN1122 (in Semester 2) in any one academic year.

The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Drama Department, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student receives the same highest grade point average, the Drama Department will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
No award shall be made if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The prize, consisting of a cheque for $500 and a certificate, will be presented at the annual Alumni Scholarships and Prize ceremony in April of the following year.

The Maritime Archaeology Staff Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Maritime Archaeology Staff Prize
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who achieved the best result for their Master of Maritime Archaeology thesis (18 units) in each calendar year.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the convener of Graduate Studies in Maritime Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same result for their Master of Maritime Archaeology thesis, the convener of Graduate Studies in Maritime Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

The Master of Maritime Archaeology Alumni Prize

The name of the prize shall be The Maritime Archaeology Alumni Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $250.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the Master of Maritime Archaeology graduate who achieves the highest GPA.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Convener of Graduate Studies in Maritime Archaeology, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student achieves the same GPA for their Master of Maritime Archaeology studies, the convener of Graduate Studies in Maritime Archaeology will recommend that the prize be shared between these students.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

The Michael Woods & Co Shield

The name of the prize shall be the Michael Woods & Co Shield.
The value of the prize shall be the initial donation of a shield (to the value of $150), suitable to include engraving bars, plus an annual prize to the value of $300.
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually to, and shared among, the students who:
(a) are enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice course; (b) in the relevant year have completed the topic LLAW5904 Criminal Practice; and (c) are members of the group of students comprising the simulated firm, formed as part of the educational instruction in the topic, which group is adjudged to have been the most outstanding in terms in commitment and academic performance.
The Examinatiaons Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a group of students is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more such groups of students adjudged to be equally outstanding, the Board will determine that the prize and its value to be shared equally between or among the groups of students.

The Michael Wills Prize in Italian

The prize shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the School of Humanities on the recommendation of the Department of Languages.
The value of the prize shall be a sum of money not exceeding the year's income on the capital. If in any year the prize is not awarded, the value of the prize shall be added to the capital of the fund.
The prize shall be awarded to the undergraduate student in the beginners stream at any of the three levels of the Italian major whose achievement has been particularly noteworthy.

The Minter Ellison Prize in Commercial and Property Law

The value of the prize shall be $350.
The prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: (a) is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; (b) in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3102 Corporate Law (Drafting); and (c) has the highest combined total of marks received in the topics LLAW2103 Advanced Contract, LLAW3104 Trusts and Assignment and LLAW 3102 Corporate Law (Drafting) or their previous equivalents.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.

Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled full-time or part-time in Modern Greek at Flinders who attains the highest mark in first year Modern Greek (advanced Stream). The results attained in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the one year will be taken into account.

The name of the prize shall be The Naracoorte Lucindale Prize in Cultural Tourism.
The value of the prize shall be $100.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student who, on completion of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism, has the most improved GPA over the duration of the course.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Cultural Tourism, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students for the prize and shall judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event that more than one student has the most improved GPA over the duration of the course, the prize shall be shared.
The prize shall be awarded annually.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Prize in Evidence

The value of the prize shall be $250.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years.
The prize shall be awarded to a student in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice attaining in the relevant year, the highest mark in the topic LLAW4101 Evidence.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law, on the recommendation of the topic coordinator shall each year determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates.

Office of the Public Advocate Prize

The name of the prize shall be the Office of the Public Advocate Prize.
The prize shall be awarded on an annual basis to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3070 Disability, Mental Health and the Law; or LLAW2020 Law and Medicine; has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
If in any year, both of the above topics have been taught and the Examination Board determines that award of the prize is warranted in both topics, the value of the prize for each topic shall be $125. If only one of the topics has been taught, the value of the prize shall be $250.
The Office of the Public Advocate for South Australia undertakes to continue to endow this prize for a further period of five years, commencing in respect of academic achievement in topics offered in the year 2007.

The City of Onkaparinga Prize

The name of the prize shall be the City of Onkaparinga Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $250.
The prize shall be awarded on an annual basis for an initial period of three years.
The prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall mark for their final year research project in the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism. Should there be more than one student with the highest overall mark, the Department of Cultural Studies shall recommend that the prize be split between those candidates with the highest overall marks.
The Examinations Board on the recommendation of the topic coordinators shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates.
The prize recipients shall be announced at a Prize Ceremony and the results published in the Flinders Journal.

The Pam Bishop Prize in Spanish

The sum of $765 having been given to the University by members of the University staff and friends of the late Pamela Claudine Bishop, who distinguished herself in Part 1 of the degree of Bachelor of Arts in the School of Language and Literature in 1966, the following rules shall apply to the annual prize provided by this endowment.

The Pam Bishop Prize in Spanish shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Languages.
The value of the prize shall be $40. If in any year the prize is not awarded or the income from the endowment exceeds the amount of the prize, the value of such prize or excess income shall be added to the capital of the fund.
The prize shall be awarded to the best first-year student in Spanish.

The Peter Andrinopoulos Memorial Prize in Modern Greek

The name of the prize shall be The Peter Andrinopoulos Memorial Prize in Modern Greek.
The value of the prize shall be $200.00.
Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled full-time or part-time in Modern Greek at Flinders who attains the highest mark in first year Modern Greek (Beginners Stream). The results attained in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 in the one year will be taken into account.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Modern Greek, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two students receiving the same highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally between them. If the Department of Modern Greek decides that no candidate is of sufficient merit for the prize in a given year, the prize will not be awarded.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years, at the end of which a new term could be negotiated.

The Piper Alderman Prize in Corporate Law

The value of the prize shall be $250.

The Richard Conyers Prize

The prize has been funded by a donation of $2000 from Mr R and Mrs JB Conyers in memory of their son Mr Richard Conyers, a brilliant graduate student in English who died suddenly while assisting with the Year 12 Conference at Flinders University in 1998.

The name of the prize shall be The Richard Conyers Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
The prize shall be awarded annually.
The prize shall be awarded for an honours thesis with the highest agreed mark.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of English, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students.

The Ruth Probert Memorial Medal for Excellence in Beginning Teaching

The name of the prize shall be the Ruth Probert Memorial Medal for Excellence in Beginning Teaching.
The prize shall consist of a medal; to be accompanied by a citation describing the exemplary nature of the awardee's teaching performance. Brief biographical details of Ruth Probert shall be provided as part of the documentation.
The award shall be made on an annual basis to a graduating student enrolled in one of the Bachelor of Education programs. Only one medal shall normally be awarded each year. A prize shall not be awarded if there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The academic criteria used in awarding the medal shall be those which pertain to the final teaching practice report. The report addresses student performance against specified criteria and is jointly constructed by the supervising teacher(s) and the supervising university lecturer, with input from the principal or practicum coordinator in the school.
The award shall be publicised, and nomination forms made available to supervising teachers, principals and lecturers.
Student teachers who have demonstrated exemplary teaching skills in their final practicum placement may be nominated for the award by any two of the following: the supervising teacher(s) in their practicum school, the school principal or practicum coordinator, the supervising university lecturer.
Members of the Teaching Experience Reference Group shall consider the nominated students' final teaching practice reports, and shall select for the award the candidate who overall best demonstrates exemplary performance against each of the criteria specified in that report.

The SATISFAC Award for Academic Excellence

The name of the prize shall be The SATISFAC Award for Academic Excellence.
The total value of the prize shall be $1000, comprising: $500 for category (a) Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary/Primary), and including Special Education; and $500 for category (b) Bachelor of Education (Middle School), (Secondary) or (Secondary Science).
Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded to the student(s) with the highest GPA for the 30 units of graded academic topics in the penultimate year of study, (Third Year of the undergraduate program, or First Year of the graduate-entry program).
In the event of two or more students receiving the same GPA in category (a) or (b), the prize shall be shared equally between those students.
The recommendation from the Undergraduate Directors of Study for the recipients for the prize shall be endorsed by the School of Education Board (or equivalent committee).
The prize shall be awarded on an annual basis.

The Senior Prize in Philosophy

The total sum of $1000 has been donated to establish a Second/Third Year Philosophy prize. The sum of $500 has been donated by Mr Greg O'Hair, Visiting Scholar and Emeritus Professor Brian Medlin and a further $500 has been donated by the Department of Philosophy.

The name of the prize shall be The Senior Prize in Philosophy.
The value of the prize shall be $50.
The prize shall be awarded annually.
The prize shall be awarded to the student who achieved the highest overall mark in an essay-based Second/Third Year Philosophy topic. (An essay-based topic is one for which 50% or more of the assessment is based on essays, including tutorial papers).

The South Australian Cyprus Community Prize in Modern Greek

The name of the prize shall be The South Australian Cyprus Community Prize in Modern Greek.

Subject to clause 4, the prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled in any of MGRE2502, MGRE2502A, MGRE2502C, MGRE2502D Special Topic in Modern Greek Culture or in the upper level (second or third year) topics (Beginner or Advanced Streams) who attains the highest mark in the Culture component of the topic. The student may be full-time or part-time at Flinders University.
The Examinations Board of the School of Humanities, on the recommendation of the Department of Modern Greek, shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two students receiving the same highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally between them. If the Department of Modern Greek decides that no candidate is of sufficient merit for the prize in a given year, the prize will not be awarded.

Subject to clauses 5 and 6, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW2021 Environment Law; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the LLP/LP as a whole.
The inaugural award of the prize shall take place in 2003 in respect of academic performance in the topic undertaken in summer 2002.

South Australian Office of Consumer and Business Affairs Prize

The name of the prize shall be the South Australian Office of Consumer and Business Affairs Prize.
The value of the prize shall be up to the value of $250.
Subject to clauses 4, 5 and 6, the prize shall be awarded annually to the student who: is enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws and Legal Practice; in the relevant year has completed the topic LLAW3037 Consumer Protection and Unfair Trading or LLAW3041 Supply of Goods and Services; and has the highest total mark received in the topic.
The Examinations Board of the School of Law shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the students, and judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of the prize.
If in any year, both of the above topics have been taught and the Examinations Board determines that the award of the prize is warranted in both topics, the prize for each topic shall be at least $125. If only one of the topics has been taught, the prize for that topic shall be up to the value of $250.
In the event of two or more students receiving the same total mark for the relevant topic or topics, the Board may select one only of those students to receive the prize on a basis of their academic record in the course as a whole.
The South Australian Office of Consumer and Business Affairs undertakes to endow this prize for a period of five years, in the first instance, commencing in respect of academic achievement in topics offered in the year 2002.

South Australian Tourism Commission Prize in Cultural Tourism

The name of the prize shall be the South Australian Tourism Commission Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $1000.
The prize shall be awarded annually for an initial period of five years.
The prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the highest overall marks for the three years of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism. Should there be more than one student with the highest overall mark, the Department of Cultural Studies shall recommend that the prize be split between those candidates with the highest overall marks.
The prize shall be open to all current undergraduate students (full-time or part-time), who have successfully completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism degree. Students completing honours in the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism would not be eligible for the prize.

The value of the prize shall be $300.
The prize shall be awarded on an annual basis for an initial period of three years.
The prize shall be awarded to the graduand who achieves the highest overall mark of the combined industry placement components of the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism degree in a given year. The topics to be combined are CUTU2005 Cultural Tourism Industry Experience 1 (second year topic) and CUTU3005 Cultural Tourism Industry Experience 2 (third year topic).
The Examinations Board on the recommendation of the topic coordinators shall determine the eligibility and ranking of the candidates. Should there be more than one student with the highest overall mark of the combined industry placement, the Department of Cultural Studies shall recommend that the prize be split between those candidates with the highest overall marks.

The recommendation of the recipient for the prize shall be endorsed by the Humanities Examinations Board in December each year.

The name of the prize shall be the Visible Management Festival and Event Management Prize.
The value of the prize shall be $300, plus the opportunity for the recipient to have a mentoring relationship with Visible Management for a period of 12 months following graduation.

The prize shall be awarded to the student who has successfully completed the Graduate Certificate in Tourism (Festival and Event Management) and has achieved the highest overall mark for that award.
Staff of the Cultural Tourism Unit within the Department of Cultural Studies shall determine the eligibility and ranking of students. If two or more students receive the same grade point average they shall determine that the prize be split between those students.
