The Academic Prize in Audiology
- The prize shall be known as The Academic Prize in Audiology.
- The value of the prize shall be $400 for a single awardee, or a divided portion if shared.
- The prize will be available annually. At the discretion of the Examinations Board, the prize may be shared between two or more awardees who achieve the same or a very similar grade point average (GPA).
- The prize shall be awarded to a completing Master of Audiology student who has completed 72 units of the course at Flinders, and the Examination Board determines has achieved the highest overall GPA.
- The Examinations Board will award the prize to a student who achieves the highest overall Grade Point Average (GPA). In the event that two or more students achieve the same or a similar GPA the award may be shared at the discretion of the Examinations Board. If no student achieves a GPA of 6.0 or above the Examinations Board may choose not to award the prize, or to award the prize to a student who achieves a GPA very close to 6.0.
- The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Administration Prize
- The prize shall be known as the Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Administration Prize.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Health Care Management Examinations Board.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a cheque to the value of $200.
- The prize shall be awarded to the graduating student in the Graduate Certificate in Aged Care Administration, who has completed all 18 units of the award at Flinders University and has achieved the highest Grade Point Average throughout the course.
- In the event of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the student with the highest aggregate mark for the course.
- No award shall be made if the Examinations Board deems that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

Allen Hudson Memorial Prize for Practical
Nursing
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of
the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- The value of the prize shall be determined each year by the
trustee of the Allen Hudson Memorial Prize for Practical
Nursing
fund.
- The prize shall be awarded to a second year student in the Bachelor
of Nursing Pre-registration program who demonstrates
excellence
in clinical practice.

The AMGEN Australia Prize for Excellence in
Biotechnology Research
The prize is to encourage excellence in research within traditional
or modern biotechnology.
It is open to all students completing the Honours Degree of Bachelor
of Biotechnology in the Schools of Biological Sciences, and
Medicine.
The following rules shall apply to the prize donated by AMGEN
Australia
Pty Ltd:
- The prize shall be known as The AMGEN Australia Prize
for Excellence in Biotechnology Research.
- The value of the prize shall be $500.
- The prize, which will be available annually, will be
awarded
by the Biotechnology Examinations Board. Any student
fulfilling
the requirements for award of the Honours Degree of
Bachelor of
Biotechnology is eligible for the prize.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student
demonstrating academic and experimental research excellence during the
fourth (Honours)
year of the degree program whose performance is judged
to be the
best by reference, principally, to achievements in the
topic Advanced Biotechnology Practice.

Australasian College of Health
Service Management, SA Branch, Health Management Prize
- The prize shall be known as the Australasian College of Health
Service Management, SA Branch, Health Management Prize.
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Health Care Management
Examinations Board, on the recommendation of the Head of Health Care
Management and the team of Health Care Management staff involved in
supervising health care management projects and research.
- The prize shall be awarded to the graduating student in the
Master of Health Administration or the Master of Science (Health
Administration) [ie, one prize will cover both awards] who has completed
at least half of the award at Flinders University and has produced the
best management project or thesis, where this is a significant component
of the award.
- The prize shall consist of one year's membership of ACHSM
(valued at around $350), a certificate and a cheque to the value of
$150. In the event of a tie, the prize will go to the student with the
highest Grade Point Average (GPA) for the course, or an alternative
criterion as determined by the staff of Health Care Management.
- Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for the
prize.
- No award shall be made if the Examinations Board deems that
there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

Australian and New Zealand College of
Anaesthetists' Prize in Anaesthesia
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Third and Fourth Year
BMBS Examinations Board of the School of Medicine.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a book voucher, the
value of which shall be determined by the Australian and New Zealand
College of Anaesthetists from time to time, but shall be not less than
$500. In the event of a tie, two prizes shall
be awarded.
- The prize shall be awarded to the final year student
whose performance in Anaesthesia is judged to be the best.

The Australian Chinese Medical Association
Awards
The Australian Chinese Medical Association has provided funds for
two annual awards to foster medical students' interest in
community medicine. The Second Year award is available for the period
1995-2007
and the Third Year award for the period 2000-2007, in the
first
instance. The following rules will apply to the award:
- The awards may be made annually by the BMBS Examinations Boards
of the School of Medicine.
- The value of each award shall be $300.
- The Second Year award shall be made to the student enrolled
in the BMBS course whose first semester essay for the
topic MMED8230
Doctor, the Profession and Society 2, is judged to be
the best.
- The Third Year award shall be made to the student
enrolled in
the BMBS course whose 'transfer of care' letter and
final tutorial
presentation for the continuity of care component of
topic MMED8330
Doctor, the Profession and Society 3, are judged to be
the best.

The Australian College of Ambulance Professionals' Prize for
Research
- The name of the prize shall be the Australian College of Ambulance
Professionals' Prize for Research.
- The prize will comprise a 12 month complimentary membership to the
Australian College of Ambulance Professionals and a $100 book voucher.
- Subject to clauses 4 and 5, the prize shall be awarded annually by
the Bachelor of Health Sciences Examinations Board to the student
enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Paramedic) who gains the
highest mark in topic HLTH3001 Health Research.
- The Examinations Board of the Bachelor of Health Sciences shall
judge whether a candidate is of sufficient merit to warrant the award of
the prize.
- In the event of two or more eligible students receiving the same
mark for the topic, the prize will be awarded to the student whose
academic record in the course as a whole is judged to be the best.
- The prize shall be presented at the annual Bachelor of Health
Sciences (Paramedic) dinner.

Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (SA Branch) Prize for
Clinical Excellence
- The prize recipient shall be awarded and determined annually by
the Examinations Board (Graduate Programs) of the School of Nursing &
Midwifery.
- The prize shall consist of $250 and one-year membership of the
Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
- The prize shall be awarded annually to a student completing the
Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing who demonstrates clinical
excellence in Mental Health Nursing based on the Grade Point Average
achieved in the clinical practice topics of the course.
- Who must normally be a resident of South Australia.
- Where there are two preferred candidates, the prize will be awarded
to whichever of these students has the highest overall Grade Point
Average for the Graduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing.

The Australian College of Midwives Inc
Prize for Midwifery
- The prize, donated by the Australian College of Midwives Inc (SA
Branch), may be awarded each year by the Examinations Board:
Undergraduate Programs, of the School of Nursing & Midwifery.
- The prize shall be a year's membership of the ACMI and the ACMI
badge.
- The prize shall be awarded to a final year student in the
pre-registration Bachelor of Midwifery offered by the School of Nursing
& Midwifery who demonstrates outstanding academic achievement,
including research, throughout the course and has satisfactory midwifery
practice reports.

Australian College of Children and Young
People's Nurses - South Australian Chapter Prize for Academic
Excellence
- The prize shall be known as the Australian College of Children and
Young People's Nurses - South Australian Chapter Prize for Academic
Excellence.
- The prize, donated by the Australian College of Children and Young
People's Nurses - South Australian Chapter shall consist of financial
membership with the Australian College of Children and Young People's
Nurses - South Australian Chapter for one full membership year and a
book
voucher to the value of $100.
- The prize shall be awarded to a nursing student completing the
Graduate Certificate in Health (Child, Adolescent and
Family Health Nursing) program in the School of Nursing & Midwifery
who achieves the highest GPA across the following three topics:
NURS8821 Health Maintenance for Infants, Children and Young People
NURS8822 Primry Health Care for Child and Family Health Nursing
NURS8824 Introduction to Working with Infants, Children and
Families.
In the event of a tie the prize will be awarded to the student who
gains the highest mark average across all the three topics.

The Australian Medical Association (South
Australia) Student Medal and Prize
To encourage academic achievement and student involvement in the
life of the Medical Schools of the University of Adelaide
and The
Flinders University of South Australia, the Australian
Medical Association (South Australia) Inc has established an annual
award to be competed for by the final year students in the two Medical
Schools. The following are the rules:
- The award shall be called The Australian Medical
Association
(South Australia) Student Medal and Prize.
- The value of the award shall be a medal and free AMA
membership,
if appropriate, at level FiY1, first year after
graduation.
- The medal shall incorporate the name of the student,
year of
award and University attended.
- Two medals shall be awarded annually by the Australian
Medical
Association (South Australia) Inc; one to a student
completing
the Medical Course at the University of Adelaide and the
second
to a student completing the Medical Course at The
Flinders University
of South Australia.
- The medal for the University of Adelaide student shall
be awarded
on the recommendation of the Dean of Medicine of the
University
of Adelaide to the final year student in the course for
the degrees
of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery who is
judged
to have been the best student in terms of academic
performance
in the course and his or her contribution to the Faculty
of Medicine
through representing the interests of students and
involvement
in the life of the Adelaide Medical Students Society.
- The medal for The Flinders University of South
Australia student
shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Dean of
Medicine
of The Flinders University of South Australia to the
final year
student in the course for the degrees of Bachelor of
Medicine
and Bachelor of Surgery who is judged on combined
criteria relating
to academic performance and contribution to the School
of Medicine;
The Flinders University of South Australia or the
general community.
Such contributions may include excellence in research
and exceptional
performance in a non-academic pursuit.
- No award shall be made under Clauses 5 and 6 above in
a year
if, in the opinion of the Association and the particular
Dean,
there is no student of sufficient merit.
- The process for selecting recipients of the AAM
Student Medals
is to include the following:
(a) a general call for nominations
which could include: a letter to all faculty members;
forms in
pigeon holes of students from the final year of the
course; advertisement(s)
in student publications; a post or email delivery of the
nomination
form to students from the final year of the course;
(b) the nomination
should, where possible, include a CV of the person
nominated,
with the signature of the person nominating and a
seconder;
(c)
as a minimum the selection committee is to include the
President
of the AMA(SA) (or nominee), the Dean (or nominee) and a
faculty
member(s) of the University Medical School.
In addition, the AMA(SA)
strongly encourages a final year student to be invited
to the
selection committee, at the discretion of the Dean.

The Chronic Condition Management Practice Change Initiative Prize
- The prize shall be known as the Chronic Condition Management Practice Change Initiative Prize.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Chronic Care, Mental and Public Health Examinations Board.
- The prize shall consist of a cheque to the value of $200.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student who receives the highest mark for the topic MHSC8112 Perspectives on Chronic Disease Management.
- In event that the highest mark is less than 80% no prize will be awarded.
- In the event of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the student with the highest mark in the assessment component Changing Systems to Support Chronic Condition Management.

- The prize shall be known as the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences Prize.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences Examinations Board.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a cheque to the value of $200.
- The prize shall be awarded to the second year student in the Bachelor of Clinical Sciences who achieves the highest Grade Point Average over Years 1 and 2 of the course.
- In the event of a tie, the prize shall be awarded to the student whose score in the Multiple Mini Interview in topic MMED2008 Communication for Improved Health Care is judged to be the best.
- No award shall be made if the Examinations Board deems that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

Australia (CRANA) Prize
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of
the School of Medicine (Remote Health).
- The value of the prize will be a plaque and a gift determined by
CRANA.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student completing the Master of
Remote Health Practice (Nurse Practitioner) whose overall academic
record, performance in clinical reasoning in the remote context, and the
clinical practicums of the intensive blocks are judged to be the best.
- The prize will be presented by the President of CRANA at the annual
CRANA conference.

- The prize may be awarded annually by the Examinations

of the School of Medicine (Nutrition and Dietetics).
- The value of the prize shall be a book or books to the

of $250.

of Nutrition and Dietetics course whose performance in
the research
elective topic during the second year is judged to be
the best.

amount
to be determined annually.
- The prize will be awarded by the First and Second Year
Examinations
Board of the School of Medicine.

- The value of the prize shall be determined by the Dean
each year, but shall not be less than $500.

top combined aggregate mark in Years 3 and 4 of the BMBS
course.

The Dr Nick McClure Memorial Prize in
Enterprise Management
This prize has been established from contributions by family,
friends,
students and colleagues to commemorate Dr Nick McClure, a
valued
member of the lecturing staff of the Bachelor of
Biotechnology (Honours) course from 1993 until his untimely death in
2002. Nick played a
key role in developing the topic of Enterprise Management
to its
current standard of excellence and hence this prize is
awarded in
his honour. The following rules shall apply:
- The Dr Nick McClure Memorial Prize in Enterprise
Management
may be awarded annually by the Biotechnology and Medical
Sciences Examinations Board (herein after referred to as the
Board).
- The value of the prize shall be $500.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student who gains
the highest mark in the topic BTEC4630 Enterprise Management.
- No prize shall be awarded if in the opinion of the
Board there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

The Edeline 'Tommy' Lyon Prize
- The Prize shall be called The Edeline 'Tommy' Lyon Prize.
- The value of the prize shall be a cheque for $500.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the
School of Nursing & Midwifery (Undergraduate) to a student completing
the Third and final year of the Bachelor of Nursing (pre-registration):
who has achieved a Grade Point Average of 5 or above in the first two
years of the course; and whose overall performance in placements in a
clinical venue identified as aged care, acute, community or residential
with a focus on people over the age of 65 is judged to be the best.
- Nominations for the prize will be made by topic coordinators of
final year clinical topics on the basis of the students' clinical
reports and submitted to the Examinations Board which will make a
decision as to the winner.
- Should there be two or more students of equal merit, the students'
previous level of academic achievement as evidenced by GPA in the
preceding two years of the course will be taken into consideration.
- The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient
merit.

Elsevier Prize for Academic Excellence in Mental Health Nursing (Masters)
- The prize shall be known as the Elsevier Prize for Academic Excellence in Mental Health Nursing (Masters).
- The prize shall consist of a book voucher to the value of $150 and a certificate provided by the donor, Elsevier Australia.*
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the School of Nursing & Midwifery: Postgraduate. It will be presented to the prize recipient at the School of Nursing & Midwifery Awards and Prizes Ceremony.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student completing the Master of Mental Health Nursing, who demonstrates academic excellence by achieving the highest overall Grade Point Average.
- In the event of a tie the prize shall be shared equally.
* Elsevier is a major international publishing company specialising in medical and health science text books. This donor is acceptable to the Faculty of Health Sciences.

Flinders University School of Medicine
Alumni Prize
- The prize shall be called the Flinders University
School of
Medicine Alumni Prize.
- The value of the prize shall be a certificate and
book.
- The prize shall be awarded annually on the
recommendation of
the Dean of the School of Medicine in consultation with
members
of the executive of the Alumni Association.
- Nominations for the prize may be made by members of
the final
year BMBS student body and by members of staff of the
School of
Medicine. Forms for this purpose will be circulated
amongst the
staff and students in October each year.
- The aim of the prize is to encourage students to
maintain their interest and investment in activities in the wider
community.
The prize shall be awarded to the final year BMBS
student who
is of good academic standing and who is judged to have
made the
most outstanding contribution in a field other than
medicine.
This may include community service, achievements in the
arts,
or sporting endeavours.
- In the event that in any year there is more than one
student
of sufficient merit, the Dean may recommend that the
award be
made to more than one student.
- No award shall be made if the Dean, together with
members of
the Executive of the Alumni Association deem that there
is no
candidate of sufficient merit.

The GlaxoSmithKline Prizes in the
Neurosciences
- Two prizes of $500 each may be awarded for the best
undergraduate and postgraduate seminars in any branch of the
neurosciences, presented to the Centre for Neuroscience.
- The prizes may be awarded to students who: are enrolled in an
undergraduate or postgraduate course of study at any University; are
members of the Flinders University Centre for Neuroscience at the time
of presentation of the seminar; and have carried out the research
presented in the seminar whilst a student or visiting scholar of
Flinders University.
- The prizes shall be awarded by the board of the appropriate
school on the recommendation of the convener of the Centre for
Neuroscience.
- The postgraduate prize will be designated the GlaxoSmithKline
Victor McFarlane Prize and the undergraduate prize will be designated
the GlaxoSmithKline David Ovedoff Prize.

- The prize shall be known as the Graduate Diploma in Health Administration Prize.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Health Care Management Examinations Board.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a cheque to the value of $200.
- The prize shall be awarded to the graduating student in the Graduate Diploma in Health
- Administration, who has completed at least 18 units of the award at Flinders University and has achieved the highest Grade Point Average throughout the course.

The Jack Alpers Prize in Clinical
Internal Medicine
The Prize has been established in memory of Professor Jack Alpers, one
of the founding leaders of the School of Medicine and its major teaching
hospital, Flinders Medical Centre. Professor Alpers was Head of
Respiratory Medicine and Deputy Head of the Department of Medicine from
1976 until his retirement in 2001. He was an excellent and compassionate
physician with a particular human touch which was greatly valued by his
patients. He was also a committed and highly respected teacher and
mentor of several generations of medical students and junior doctors and
was particularly valued for his skills in clinical interaction, the
essence of medical practice. He died at the age of 71 in November, 2007.
Prior to his death, Professor Alpers indicated his wish to contribute
a significant sum to establish a prize for excellence in clinical
internal medicine. His colleague and friend Professor John Chalmers
(former Head of the Department of Medicine at Flinders) agreed to match
this sum. Since then, a fund has been established in honour of Professor
Alpers to which his family, friends, students and colleagues have
contributed generously to support the prize.
The following rules shall apply to the prize:
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Examinations Board of
the School of Medicine (Years 3 and 4 BMBS).
- The value of the prize shall be determined from time to time by
the Examinations Board but shall not be less than $300.
- The prize shall be awarded to the final year BMBS student who
has been in good standing throughout the course and whose teamwork,
clinical skills and empathy in the practice of clinical internal

In celebration of the completion, in November 1992, of 100 years
operating various South Australian charitable health services,
predominantly for the aged and infirm, The James Brown Memorial Trust
offers the following prizes in memory of its benefactors.
The following
rules shall apply to the James and Jessie Brown Memorial Prizes in
Gerontology:
- The James and Jessie Brown Memorial Prizes in
Gerontology will
be awarded annually by a selection panel, comprising the
Chairperson of The James Brown Memorial Trust (or nominee), the
Professor of Rehabilitation, Aged and Extended Care (or nominee) and a
nominee of the Dean of Nursing with expertise in the field of
gerontology or aged care.
- The value of the prizes shall be determined from time
to time
by The James Brown Memorial Trust but shall not be less
than $1,000 each.
- One prize shall be awarded to a student enrolled
within the
graduate entry medical program (BMBS) or any other
undergraduate

Jane Preston Memorial Prize in Obstetrics
and Gynaecology
Jane Preston, a medical graduate, completed the
Obstetrics and
Gynaecology training program at Flinders and graduated
Fellow of
the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists
in February 1991, aged 32. A few days later she was
diagnosed with
cancer and died in 1993, aged 34. In her memory, her
family has donated funds to support an annual prize for a female
student, enrolled in the final year of the BMBS
course, who has achieved excellence in the study of
obstetrics and
gynaecology. The rules for the prize are as follows:
- There shall be a fund known as the Jane Preston
Memorial Fund.
- The fund shall consist of a principal established by
donations
and such revenues as are received from the investment of
that
principal. The fund shall be open to subscriptions by
the public
and set up with the approval of the Australian Taxation
Office.
- The purposes of the fund are to award annually a prize
which
shall consist of a medal, a certificate, and a sum of
money, and
which shall be known as the Jane Preston Memorial Prize,
to a
female student enrolled in the final year of the BMBS
course in
the School of Medicine who has achieved excellence in
the study
of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- There shall be a committee appointed by the Council
known as
the Jane Preston Memorial Fund Committee which shall
comprise
the Vice-Chancellor (or nominee), the Dean of the School
of Medicine
(or nominee), and the Head of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology (or nominee), save that at least one member
of the
committee shall be a woman.
The functions of the
committee shall
be to receive annually:
(1) a recommendation from
the Examinations Board of the School of Medicine on the
award
of a prize;
(2) a report on the state of the fund.
A copy of the report shall be made available to the main
sponsor
of the fund. If, on the advice of the Examinations
Board, there
is no student eligible to receive the prize in a
particular year,
no award shall be made.
If a joint prize is to be awarded, each
recipient shall be awarded a medal, a certificate and
the full value of the prize.
- The value of the prize shall be $300 on the first
occasion offered.
The real value of the prize shall be maintained by
adjusting it
commensurately with movements in the Consumer Price
Index for
Adelaide.
- The fund shall be administered by the University
Accountant
and shall be invested at his or her discretion in
securities or
the like which are approved forms of investment for the
general
funds of the University.
- The prize shall cease to be awarded if the fund is
exhausted.
- If the prize has been unable to be awarded for a
period of five
years, the committee shall so advise the Council which
is empowered
to alter the purposes of the fund as appropriate save
that it
shall always be applied for the purposes of a prize for
an outstanding
female student in the specialty of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology
which shall be known as the Jane Preston Memorial Prize.

Jillian Teubner Memorial Prize
Jillian Teubner's career at Flinders spanned 27 years. She was
appointed as a Senior Demonstrater in Clinical
Biochemistry in
1975 and, at the time of her death from cancer in 2002,
she was
Associate Professor in the Medical Education Unit of the
School
of Medicine. In this latter role, as Chairperson of the
BMBS Admissions Committee, Jillian's work in designing and implementing
the admissions process for the graduate entry medical course was of
national and
international significance. She was also responsible for
recruiting international students to the medical course and took a
particular
interest in these students, welcoming them on their
arrival in Australia, providing support and encouragement throughout
their studies and
maintaining contact with many of them after their
graduation.
This prize has been established in Jillian's memory, from
contributions
by family, friends, students and colleagues. The following
rules
shall apply:

Neurobiology

excellence in scholarships within the neurobiological
sciences.
The following rules shall apply to the Kathleen V Russell
Prize
which the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation is to
administer, as
an affirmation of its interest in assisting researchers
early in
their education and training and throughout their
professional careers:
- The prize will be awarded annually to the honours or postgraduate
student who, undertaking studies in any branch of the
neurobiological sciences, has been judged competitively as showing the
most promise in his or her particular field.
- The value of the prize shall be $300.
- The prize will be awarded by the Flinders Medical
Centre Foundation on the recommendation of a special committee formed
from members
of the Centre for Neuroscience. Students nominated or
nominating
for this prize will have demonstrated innovation,
originality
and diligence over the duration of their research
studies and
will present a seminar to the Centre for Neuroscience
which illustrates the significance of the ideas examined, the quality of
the experimental work including the methodological and technical skills
required,
and the interpretation of their research findings in the
context
of those from other researchers.
- The prize will be presented at the Annual General
meeting of
the Flinders Medical Centre Foundation in October of
each year.
The recipient will also receive a citation named the
Kathleen
V Russell Prize in Neurobiology, which will describe

of the reasons for the award and why this particular

Contribution to a Rural Community. The prize is named in honour of
Margaret Brown, who has had a significant involvement as a consumer
representative and member of the Flinders University Rural Clinical
Community Advisory Board since its inception.

The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists Women's Health Award
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and
Gynaecologists has established an annual award in each medical school in
Australia and New Zealand to recognise exceptional student achievement
in Women's Health and Obstetrics and Gynaecology and to foster awareness
of the specialty. The award at Flinders University will be presented at
the BMBS Annual Qualifying ceremony, at the conclusion of the student's
final year of study.
The award will be presented by a staff member (or academic status
holder) of the University, who is also a Fellow of the Royal Australian
and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
The
following rules will apply to the award at Flinders University:
- The award shall be called the Royal Australian and New Zealand
College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Women's Health Award.
- The award shall be given by the Examinations Board of the School of
Medicine (Years 3 and 4 BMBS), on the recommendation of the Head of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, to a student who achieves excellence in the
Obstetrics and Gynaecology/Women's Health component of the third year of

Recipients
SA Health Prize in Health Administration
SA Health has provided generous financial support for postgraduate
health administration studies at Flinders University since July 1995.
The SA Health Prize, funded from a SA Health grant to the Department of
Health Management, encourages and rewards academic excellence in the
Master of Health Administration.
The rules of the prize will be as follows:
- The prize shall be know as the SA Health Prize in Health
Administration.
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Department of Health
Management Examinations Board, on the recommendation of the Head of the
Department of Health Management and the coordinator of the Master of
Health Administration course.
- The prize shall be awarded to the graduating student in the Master
of Health Administration who has completed at least 36 units of the
award at Flinders University and has achieved the highest Grade Point
Average (GPA) throughout the course.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a cheque to the value
of $500. In the event of a tie, the prize will go to the student with
the highest aggregate mark for the course.
- Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for the prize.
- No award shall be made if the Examinations Board deems that there
is no candidate of sufficient merit.

The School of Nursing & Midwifery HUB Research Prize
- The prize shall be known as the School of Nursing & Midwifery HUB
Research prize. Four awards will be made available annually from 2005.
- The awards will be for $250 each and will be awarded to one student
from each of the following topics: NURS1508 or MIDW2003 for
undergraduate students; NURS9602, NURS9613, NURS9615 coursework masters
programs of 9-unit, 18-unit and 36-unit projects respectively.
- Any student enrolled full-time or part-time in the nominated topics
is eligible for the award.
- Topic coordinators of undergraduate students, or supervisors of
postgraduate research topic students, will identify pieces of work that
demonstrate a high level of excellence and are either a research study,
or work that is research-based. The determination of excellence will be
according to the assessment criteria for each topic. Once selected,
permission will be sought from the student to submit the piece of work
to the School of Nursing & Midwifery's Research Committee for final
consideration.
- The awards will be granted to the student in each category whose
work best meets the following criteria: clear and concisely written;
logical flow in argument; demonstrate a high level of understanding of
research; potential for development of further research.

The South Australian College of Lactation
Consultants Prize
- The prize shall be awarded and determined annually by the
Examinations Board (Undergraduate Programs) of the School of Nursing &
Midwifery.
- The prize, donated by The South Australian College of Lactation
Consultants, shall be a one-year membership to the SACLC and a book
donation (Breastfeeding and Human Lactation).
- The prize shall be awarded to a student enrolled in the Bachelor
of Midwifery (Pre-Registration) who achieves the highest grade for the
topic MIDW2005 Maternal and Infant Nutrition.
- Where there are two or more candidates who meet the criteria,
the prize will be awarded to whichever of these candidates has the
highest overall Grade Point Average in Year 2 of the Bachelor of
Midwifery (Pre-Registration).
- The prize will be awarded to students enrolled in MIDW2005
Maternal and Infant Nutrition.

The South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists Prize in Dermatology
The South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists has established two annual prizes to be competed for by final year students at the University of Adelaide and at Flinders University.
- The prizes shall be called The South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists Prize in Dermatology.
- The prizes shall be awarded by the South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists: one to a student completing the Medical Course at the University of Adelaide and the other to a student completing the Medical Course at Flinders University.
- The prize for the University of Adelaide student shall be awarded on the recommendation of the South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists to the final year student in the course for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery whose performance in a special online quiz is judged to be the best.
- The award for the Flinders University student shall be awarded on the recommendation of the South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists to the final year student in the course for the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery whose performance in a special online quiz is judged to be the best.
- The award at Flinders University will normally be acknowledged at the BMBS Qualifying Ceremony in December each year, and awarded at the first clinical meeting of the South Australian Faculty of the Australasian College of Dermatologists in March each year.
- Final year students of both Medical Courses will be granted access to the Australasian College of Dermatologists website in late October each year to complete the online quiz.
- The award shall comprise $500.
- If two students are tied on the same mark, two prizes will be awarded and each recipient will receive an equal share of the prize money. If more than two students obtain the same mark, a mini viva in dermatology will be arranged to determine the recipient of the prize.

The Speech Pathology Association of
Australia Prize
- The Speech Pathology Association of Australia Prize shall be
awarded annually by the SA Branch of the Association on
the recommendation of the Examinations Board of the School of Medicine
[BSpPath].
- The value of the award will be equivalent to the fee
set for
graduate student members and will be used towards
membership of
the Association in the nominated year (or the following
year if
the winner has already renewed/joined the Association
for the
nominated year).
- The prize shall be awarded to the final year student
who has
demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, based on
a weighted grade point average through the course. All topics in the
Bachelor
of Speech Pathology or the Bachelor of Speech Pathology
(Honours), excluding SPTH7000 and SPTH7100, will be included in the
calculation
of the weighted GPA.
- Where there are two preferred candidates for the prize
considered to be of equal merit, the prize shall be shared equally.

The Staff Prize in Audiology
- The prize shall be known as The Staff Prize in Audiology.
- The value of the prize shall be $100 for a single awardee, or a divided portion if shared.
- The prize will be available annually.
At the discretion of the Examinations Board, the prize may be shared between multiple awardees.
- The prize is to be awarded to the completing Master of Audiology student who is
judged to be most deserving on combined criteria relating to performance on and contribution to the Master of Audiology program.
Such performance and contributions may include excellence in academic results, research, clinical practice, representing the
interests of students or exceptional performance in a non-academic pursuit.
- The Examinations Board will select the awardee based on the above criteria.
- The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

The Staff Prize in Medicine
Members of the staff of the Department of Medicine of the Flinders
Medical Centre have subscribed to a fund to establish this
prize,
to which the following rules shall apply:
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Third and
Fourth Year
BMBS Examinations Board of the School of Medicine.
- The value of the prize shall be $200. In addition, the
prize
will include a book.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled in
the fourth
year of the BMBS course whose performance at a special
examination
in Medicine is judged to be the best.
- Eligibility to sit for the special examination shall
be determined
on the basis of performance in Medicine in the third and
four
years of the course.

Gynaecology
Members of the staff of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and
Reproductive Medicine of the Flinders Medical Centre have subscribed to
a fund to establish this prize, to which the following rules shall
apply:
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Third and
Fourth Year
BMBS Examinations Board of the School of Medicine.
- The value of the prize shall be $250 and a
certificate.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled in
the fourth year of the BMBS course whose contribution to research in
Obstetrics and Gynaecology during the course is judged to be the most
significant.
- Where there are two or more candidates considered to
be of equal merit, the prize shall be awarded to, or shared equally
between, those who are not simultaneously a recipient of another prize
in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

The Staff Prize in Speech Pathology
Members of staff of the Department of Speech Pathology
and Audiology
have subscribed to a fund to establish this prize, to
which the
following rules shall apply:
- The Staff Prize in Speech Pathology shall be awarded
annually
by the Examinations Board of the School of Medicine
(Bachelor
of Speech Pathology).
- The value of the prize shall be at least $100.
- The prize shall be awarded to the final year student
who is
judged to be most deserving on combined criteria
relating to academic performance and contribution to the Speech
Pathology program.
Such contributions may include excellence in research,
clinical
practice, representing the interests of students, or
exceptional
performance in a non-academic pursuit.

prize,
to which the following rules shall apply:
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Third and
Fourth Year

- The value of the prize shall be $200. In addition the
prize
will include a book.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled in
the fourth year of the BMBS course whose performance at a special
examination
in Surgery is judged to be the best.
- Eligibility to present for the examination shall be
determined
on the basis of performance in the Surgery term in the
Third Year of the course.

St Andrew's Hospital Prize in
Health Administration
- The prize shall be known as the St Andrew's Hospital Prize in
Health Administration.
- The prize may be awarded annually by the
Health Care Management Examinations Board, on the recommendation of the
Head of Health Care Management and the Coordinator of the Graduate
Certificate in Health Administration course.
- The prize shall be awarded to the graduating student in the
Graduate Certificate in Health Administration who has completed all 18
units of the award at Flinders University and has achieved the highest
Grade Point Average (GPA) throughout the course.
- The prize shall consist of a certificate and a cheque to the value
of $500. In the event of a tie, the prize will go to the student with
the highest aggregate mark for the course.
- Both full-time and part-time students are eligible for the prize.
- No award shall be made if the Examinations Board deems that there
is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- Annual approval to offer the prize will be sought from the Chief
Executive Office of St Andrew's Hospital.

- The prize shall be known as the Sturt Nursing
Graduates Award.
- The value of the prize shall be $500.
- The prize shall be awarded to the nursing student
completing
a masters coursework program in the School of Nursing & Midwifery
with the
most outstanding academic record.

The Terumo Nursing Prize for Academic
Excellence
- The prize shall be known as the Terumo Nursing Prize
for Academic Excellence.
- The value of the prize which has been donated to the
School
of Nursing & Midwifery by Terumo Corporation, shall be
$500.
- The prize shall be awarded to a nursing student
completing the
pre-registration program in the School of Nursing &
Midwifery
and who is either part-time and/or completing within the
time
frame followed by the University, with a satisfactory
clinical
record and an outstanding academic record.

The Therapeutic Guidelines Limited
Third Year BMBS Prize
Therapeutics Guidelines Limited is an independent not-for-profit
organisation dedicated to deriving guidelines for therapy from the
latest world literature, interpreted and distilled by Australia's most
eminent and respected experts. The rules for the prize will be as
follows:
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Examinations
Board of the School of Medicine (Years 3 and 4 BMBS).
- The value of the prize shall be a two-year subscription to
Therapeutic Guidelines.
- The prize shall be awarded to the highest ranked student
completing Year 3 of the BMBS.

- The Uncle Tobys-Goodman Fielder Prize in Nutrition and
Dietetics may be
awarded annually by the Examinations Board of the

- The value of the prize shall be $500 and a plaque.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student enrolled in
the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics course whose overall performance
in
the Third Year of the course is judged to be the best.

the First Year of the course is judged to be the best.

The Unibooks Prize for Academic Excellence
- The prize has been donated by Unibooks and shall be
known as
the Unibooks Prize for Academic Excellence.
- The prize shall consist of books to the value of $250.
- The prize shall be awarded to a nursing student
completing the
pre-registration program in the School of Nursing &
Midwifery
in the minimum time with a satisfactory clinical record
and an
outstanding academic record.

The US Endocrine Society Medical
Student Achievement Award
The US Endocrine Society has established an annual award to encourage
outstanding medical students to pursue careers in endocrinology and
related fields of medicine and basic science. One award is to be offered
in each medical school in Australia. The rules for the award at this
University are as follows:
- The award may be made annually by the First and Second Year BMBS
Examinations Board of the School of Medicine, on the recommendation of
the coordinator of the Endocrine and Reproductive Systems component of
topic MMED8220A/B Knowledge of Health and Illness 2A/B.
- The award shall comprise a 12 month complimentary Fellow/Student
Associate Membership of the Society, free on-line access to the
Society's journals for a year, and an award certificate from the
Society.
- The award shall be made to the Second Year student who gains the
highest mark in Endocrine and Reproductive Systems. In the event of a
tie, an additional assessment determined and adjudicated by the
sub-topic coordinator will be set.

WA Cramond Prize in Psychiatry
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Examinations
Board of the School of Medicine (Years 3 and 4 BMBS).
- The value of the prize shall be determined annually by
the Examinations
Board, but shall not be less than $400.
- The prize shall be awarded to the student in the final
year
of the BMBS course whose overall performance in
psychiatry is judged to be the best. In the event of a tie, a special
examination in psychiatry may be conducted to determine the recipient of
the prize.

Nursing
- The prize shall be known as the Wyeth Prize for
Clinical Child
Health Nursing.
- The prize, donated by Wyeth Health and Nutrition, a
Division
of Wyeth, Australia Pty limited, shall consist of books
to the
value of $200.
- The prize shall be awarded to a nursing student
completing the
Graduate Certificate in Health (Child, Adolescent and
Family Health
Nursing) program in the School of Nursing & Midwifery
who demonstrates
excellence in clinical practice.
