The Australian Computer Society (SA) Prize for Computer Science

The prize shall be known as the Australian Computer Society (SA) Prize for Computer Science.
The value of the prize shall be $300 or such other amount as the ACS (SA) Branch Executive Committee shall from time to time determine, on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
This prize shall be awarded by the Board to the student obtaining the highest average ranking for any five third year level Computer Science topics.
No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board, there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
If, in any year, two or more candidates obtain equal highest average ranking, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such candidates.
These rules may be varied by the University in consultation with ACS (SA) Branch Executive Committee from time to time but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
In addition to the monetary prize each candidate shall receive an inscribed medallion.

The Australian Institute of Physics Bragg Medal

The medal may be awarded annually by the South Australian Branch of the Australian Institute of Physics and on recommendation by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The award will be in the form of a medal called the Bragg Medal.
The medal shall be awarded to the top final year student who is completing a Bachelor of Science degree in a physics program and who satisfies Clause 4.
In the year of the award, the student shall be enrolled in at least 18 units from a final year physics program and shall attain a minimum grade of DN in all physics topics.

The Claire Corani Memorial Prize in Physics

The Claire Corani Prize in Physics may be awarded annually by the South Australian Women in Physics Group at the annual Claire Corani Memorial Lecture, sponsored by the Australian Institute of Physics, on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
To be eligible for consideration, students must be female, enrolled as full-time or part-time students, and have completed a minimum of 27 units of second year topics of which at least one third of the units must be in second year physics topics.
The prize shall be awarded to the best student on the basis of their performance in the second year physics topics attempted.
No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The value of the prize shall be $50.

Department for Environment and Heritage Naracoorte Caves Award for Best Practicum in the Bachelor of Ecotourism

The objective of this prize is to acknowledge excellence in the Bachelor of Ecotourism.
The value of the prize shall be $200 or any other such amount as the Department of Environment and Heritage: Naracoorte Caves shall from time to time determine, on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board to the student obtaining the highest overall mark for the combined practicum components of the Bachelor of Ecotourism. The topics to be combined are ECOT2001: Ecotourism Practicum 1 and ECOT3001: Ecotourism Practicum 2. The award shall be open to all current undergraduate students who have successfully completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Ecotourism degree.
If, in any year two or more candidates obtain equal highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such candidates.
These rules may be varied by the University in consultation with the Department of Environment and Heritage: Naracoorte Caves from time to time but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.

Exceptional Kangaroo Island Award for Highest Academic Achievement in the Bachelor of Ecotourism

The objective of this prize is to acknowledge excellence in the Bachelor of Ecotourism.
The prize will take the form of 4 nights accommodation and a full day of touring for 2 people to the value of approximately $1220 per annum, or any other arrangement as Exceptional Kangaroo Island shall from time to time determine, on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board to the student who achieves the highest overall GPA for three years of undergraduate study that fulfil the degree requirements for the Bachelor of Ecotourism. The award shall be open to all current undergraduate students who have successfully completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Ecotourism degree.
Should there be more than one student with the highest overall GPA, the award will be given to the candidate with the highest overall marks. If, in any year two or more candidates obtain equal highest GPA and marks, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such candidates.
These rules may be varied by the University in consultation with Exceptional Kangaroo Island from time to time but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.

The Flinders Prize in Physics

The Flinders Prize in Physics may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
The prize shall be awarded to the best student enrolled in the Bachelor of Science degree in one of the second year programs in Physics.
No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The value of the prize shall be $100.

The Flinders Prize in Theoretical Physics

The Flinders Prize in Theoretical Physics may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
The prize shall be awarded to the best student enrolled in the Honours degree of Bachelor of Science in Theoretical Physics.
No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
The value of the prize shall be $600.

The Forensic Science Centre Prize in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry

The Forensic Science Centre Prize in Forensic and Analytical Chemistry shall be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The value of the prize shall be $200.
The prize shall be awarded to the top final year student who is completing the Bachelor of Technology (Forensic and Analytical Chemistry) degree, except that in a year when there are no candidates of sufficient merit there shall be no award.
If two or more students are judged to be of equal merit the prize shall be shared equally between them.

The Malcolm Thompson Prize for Research in Organic Chemistry

Dr MJ Thompson was a Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at Flinders University from 1966 to 1997. He has generously provided funds to endow a prize with the aim of encouraging excellence in research in the field of Organic Chemistry. The prize shall be awarded in accordance with the following rules:

The Malcolm Thompson Prize for Research in Organic Chemistry may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
The value of the prize shall be $500.
The prize shall be awarded, on the recommendation of a selection committee comprising no fewer than three members of staff in Chemistry, to a student who: is completing an Honours degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering; has undertaken an Honours research program with a strong emphasis on Organic Chemistry; and during his/her Honours program, has most clearly demonstrated innovation, originality, diligence, the ability to work independently, and an ongoing interest in research.
The prize will be presented at a Chemistry Honours seminar conducted early in the following calendar year.
No award shall be made if, in the opinion of the Board, there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
If two or more students are judged to be of equal merit the prize shall be shared equally between them.
If in any year the prize is not awarded or the income from the endowment exceeds the amount of the prize, the value of such prize or excess income shall be added to the capital of the endowment fund.

The Max Clark Prizes in Science and Engineering

The Max Clark Prizes in Science and Engineering shall be awarded annually by the Max Clark Memorial Scholarship and Elaine Martin Fund Management Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Committee).
Normally, to be eligible for an award a student must: have completed the requirements for a Bachelor degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in the academic year (including the supplementary examination period for that year) prior to the one in which they are being considered for the award; be commencing an Honours degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, either in semester 1 or semester 2 of the year in which they are being considered for the award; and have achieved an academic performance of at least a Distinction average (ie a grade point average of 6) in the 72 units of topics comprising the last two years of their Bachelor degree.
Normally, the Committee shall award five prizes of $500 to eligible students in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, at least one of which will be to an eligible student completing a degree offered by the School of Biological Sciences. More than five prizes may be awarded if, in the opinion of the Committee, there are more than five exceptional candidates and there are sufficient funds available.
The procedure for selecting the prize winners will be as follows:
(i) The Committee will meet during the break between academic years and rank the students in order of merit, regardless of their School of origin, by whatever criteria it decides.
(ii) The Committee shall offer prizes to the highest ranked student from the School of Biological Sciences and then to other students in rank order, regardless of their School of origin.
(iii) Payment of the prize will be made after confirmation that an awardee has enrolled in an Honours degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Should an awardee decide not to enrol in an Honours degree or withdraw from the degree prior to the HECS census date immediately following their enrolment the award shall be withdrawn and offered to the next appropriate nominee on the ranked list, and the process continued until all available awards have been accepted.

The Michael Wills Prize in Physics and Astronomy
- The Michael Wills Prize in Physics and Astronomy may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
- The prize shall be awarded to the best student, with the best overall performance, in the topics PHYS1101 Physics 1A and PHYS1102 Physics 1B.
- No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board there is no candidate of sufficient merit.
- The value of the prize shall be $75.

The Richard Coultas Award for Highest Academic Achievement in First Year Biology
1. The objective of this prize is to award, encourage and support outstanding students in the School of Biological Sciences in the pursuit of their undergraduate studies.
2. The value of the prize shall be $250 on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
3. 3. The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board to the student obtaining the highest combined marks for the topics: Evolution of Biological Diversity, and Molecular Basis of Life; or for the topics Evolution of Biological Diversity, and Biology and Society, for students enrolled in the Bachelor of Ecotourism.
4. Students who are enrolled in the following degrees are eligible for the award: Bachelor of Science - completing any major or extended major in Biology; Bachelor of Technology (Aquaculture); Bachelor of Ecotourism; Bachelor of Science in Biodiversity and Conservation; Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology; Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours); Bachelor of Medical Science.
5. The offer of this prize shall be contingent upon the awardee continuing to enrol in a program offered by the School of Biological Sciences. Should an awardee decide not to accept the award (ie did not wish to enrol in further studies in the Biology area or withdraws prior to the HECS census date immediately following their enrolment) the award shall be withdrawn and offered to the next appropriate nominee on the ranked list.
6. If, in any year, two or more candidates obtain equal highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such candidates.

The Royal Australian Chemical Institute (SA Branch) Prize
- The Royal Australian Chemical Institute (SA Branch) Prize may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
- The value of the prize shall be $100.
- The prize shall be awarded to the best final year Chemistry student who is completing the Bachelor of Science degree, except that in a year where there are no candidates of sufficient merit there shall be no award.

RS Components Final Year Engineering Project Prize
- The prize shall be electronic test instrumentation to the value of approximately $500 and shall include the presentation of the RS Plaque of Excellence and a commemorative certificate.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering on the recommendation of a panel of judges, the membership of which will be drawn from appropriate professionals in local industry, including at least one representative from RS Components Pty Ltd, and from amongst the academic staff of the School of Engineering.
- To be eligible for the award of the prize, students must be enrolled in the topic ENGR4508 Final Year Project.
- The prize will be awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the panel of judges attending the Engineering Final Year Project Exhibition, has conducted the best final year project. The criteria for the award of the prize will be: quality of project management documentation; quality of design or research conducted; final outcome of the project; quality of 'trade stand'and pamphlet; and ability to answer the judges'questions.
- The prize will normally be awarded to one student only, but in the case where the exhibit is presented by two or more students jointly, the prize will be shared equally between the students.

The Saab Systems Engineering Academic Achievement Prize
- The prize will be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering on the recommendation of a Selection Committee comprising a representative from Saab Systems Pty Ltd and at least two academic staff with appropriate expertise.
- The value of the prize shall be $500 and a period of work experience with Saab Systems Pty Ltd, structured so as to meet the academic requirements of the engineering degree in which the recipient is enrolled.
- To be eligible for the prize, students must have passed all of the topics comprising the first and second years of one of the following degrees: the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems); the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics); or the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Electronic). Students must also meet Defence Industry security requirements and be Australian citizens or meet Australian citizenship eligibility requirements.
- Eligible students who have attained an outstanding level of achievement in their studies will be invited to attend an interview with the Selection Committee to discuss why they would like to undertake work experience at Saab Systems Pty Ltd.
- The prize shall be awarded to the best student, judged on the basis of their academic performance in the topics comprising the second year of the degree and on the potential for the period of work experience to be mutually beneficial.
- If, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, there is no applicant of sufficient merit there shall be no award.

The Saab Systems Engineering Excellence Prize
- The value of the prize shall be $3500.
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering on the recommendation of a panel of judges, the membership of which will comprise at least one representative from Saab Systems Pty Ltd and two academic staff with appropriate expertise.
- To be eligible for the award of the prize, students must be undertaking the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems), the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical and Electronics), or the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Electronics) and be enrolled in the final year topic Engineering Honours Project.
- The prize will be awarded to the student or group of students who, in the opinion of the panel of judges attending the Engineering Honours Project Exhibition, has/have conducted the best honours project. The principal criteria for the award of the prize will be the level of innovation displayed in terms of the concept, design and the research/development undertaken for the project. The panel of judges will also take into consideration factors such as: quality of project management documentation; quality of design or research conducted; final outcome of the project; quality of 'trade stand' and pamphlet; and ability to answer the judges' questions.
- Where the prize is awarded to a group of students, it will be shared equally between the students.
- If, in the opinion of the panel of judges, there is no project of sufficient merit there shall be no award.

The Soroptimist International Southern Districts of Adelaide Prize for High Achieving Women
- The objective of this prize is to reward, encourage and support high achieving women in science.
- The value of the prize shall be $1,000.
- The prize may be awarded annually by the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering to the highest achieving female student who has completed: the first three years of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) - enhanced program for high achievers and is proceeding to Honours in the following year; or in the event that there are no eligible students in that degree, three years of another undergraduate degree offered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is proceeding to Honours in the following year.
- If, in any year, two or more students are judged to be of equal merit, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such students.
- Should an awardee decide not to proceed to Honours or withdraw from Honours, the award shall be withdrawn and offered to the next ranked student.
- No award shall be made if in the opinion of the Board there is no student of sufficient merit.

The South Australian Tourism Commission Award for Best Project in the Bachelor of Ecotourism
- The objective of this prize is to acknowledge excellence in the Bachelor of Ecotourism. The value of the prize shall be $500 or any other such amount as The South Australian Tourism Commission shall from time to time determine, on the recommendation of the Board of the Faculty of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as the Board).
- The prize shall be awarded annually by the Board to the student who achieves the highest overall mark for the topic ECOT 3101: Ecotourism 3.
- The award shall be open to all current undergraduate students who have successfully completed the requirements of the Bachelor of Ecotourism degree.
- If in any year two or more candidates obtain equal highest mark, the prize shall be divided equally amongst such candidates.
- These rules may be varied by the University in consultation with The South Australian Tourism Commission from time to time but the title and general purpose of the prize shall not be changed.
