The Ann Collins Memorial Prize

  • The Ann Collins Memorial Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, on the recommendation of the Ann Collins Tribute Committee. Up to two prizes may be awarded in any one year.
  • The value of the prize for each nominated recipient shall be $250.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the student(s) currently studying the Master of Social Work (Graduate Entry) in the School of Social and Policy Studies who has made the most significant contribution to social work fieldwork practice in a multi-cultural or cross-cultural setting.

  • The value of the prize shall be $400.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in topic BUSN3048 Auditing.

  • The Auditor-General's Department of SA Prize in Financial Management shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $400.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in topic BUSN2037 Financial Management.

Australian Association of Social Workers (SA Branch) Prize

  • The Australian Association of Social Workers (SA Branch) shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $250.
  • The prize shall be awarded to a student undertaking their final placement in either the Bachelor of Social Planning or Master of Social Work (Graduate Entry) course who is judged to have best identified and discussed an ethical dilemma in their final placement (as outlined in Unit 8, Standard 8.1 of the Work Book, Field Education 2).
  • In the event that two or more eligible students are judged to be of sufficient merit to receive the prize, the prize shall be shared equally.

The Australian Psychological Society Prize in Psychology

  • The Australian Psychological Society Prize in Psychology shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • In 2005 the prize shall consist of 12 months free Associate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society, and the opportunity to present a poster based on his or her thesis at the Annual Conference of The Australian Psychological Society Limited (with conference registration fee paid by the Society) in the year following completion of the program of study.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student completing an accredited four-year program in psychology.

Australian Taxation Office Prize

  1. The name of the prize shall be the Australian Taxation Office Prize.
  2. The value of the prize shall be $1,000 awarded annually.
  3. The prize shall be awarded to the best student in topic BUSN3054 Taxation Law and Practice, and enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) degree, as decided by the topic coordinator on the basis of the overall mark for the topic, and approved by the Dean of Flinders Business School.
  4. In the event of a tie, the prize will be awarded to the student with the superior research essay. The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

  • The value of the prize shall be $200.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student completing topic BUSN3029 Investments and Portfolio Management.

  • The Bet Roffey Memorial Prize in International Business shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize will be $200.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student graduating from the MBA (International Business) degree.

  • The Bill Brugger Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $100.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student completing honours in International Relations, Political Studies or Public Policy.
  • The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

  • The Bob Wallace Prize in Macroeconomics may be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social ad Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $100.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the student achieving the best results in topic BUSN1008 Introductory Macroeconomics.

  • The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants' Prize in Management Accounting shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $200.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in topic BUSN2035 Cost and Management Accounting.

  • The City of Onkaparinga Prize for BUSN2019 International Business Context will be awarded annually by the Topic Coordinator on the basis of the overall mark for the topic.
  • The value of the prize shall be $200.
  • The prize will be awarded to the best student or students in BUSN2019 International Business Context.
  • In the event that more than one student achieves the highest mark in the topic the prize will be split evenly between those students.

The CPA Australia Prizes in Accounting

  • The CPA Australia Prizes in Accounting (three prizes) shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • One prize will be awarded to the best student completing the First Year of the Master Accounting consisting of BUSN9113 Accounting Fundamentals; BUSN9114 Information Systems and Accounting Processes; BUSN9116 Economics for Business; BUSN9115 Quantitative Methods; BUSN9117 Cost and Management Accounting; BUSN9123 Principles of Commercial Law ($300).
  • The second prize is awarded to the best graduating student in the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) ($300).
  • The third prize is awarded to the best student in the topic BUSN3047 Company Accounting ($350).
  • In the case of two or more equal winners, the topic coordinator will be consulted. The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

  • The CPA Young Professionals Network Prizes shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • One prize will be awarded to the best student completing BUSN1001 Accounting Principles ($200).
  • The second prize will be awarded to the best student completing BUSN1002 Financial Accounting Processes ($200).
  • The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

  • The Dakka Trading - Import-Export Theory and Practice Best Student Award will be awarded annually by the Topic Coordinator on the basis of the overall mark for the topic.
  • The value of the prize shall be $200.
  • The prize will be awarded to the student or students gaining the highest overall mark in BUSN3037 Import-Export Theory and Practice.
  • In the event that more than one student achieves the highest mark in the topic the prize will be split evenly between those students.

  • The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (South Australian Office) Prize in International Trade Policy shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, for a period of five years.
  • The value of the prize shall be $250.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in the topic BUSN3056 International Trade.

Economic Society of Australia (SA) Prize in Managerial Economics

  • The Economic Society of Australia (SA) Prize in Managerial Economics shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, until further notice.
  • The value of the prize shall be $500 consisting of $350 and two-year membership of the Society including subscriptions to the Economic Record and Economic Papers.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best year student in BUSN2043 Managerial Economics, irrespective of the degree in which the student may be enrolled.
  • In the event that more than one student achieves the highest mark in the topic, the prize will be split evenly between those students.

  • The Economic Society of Australia (SA) Prize in Macroeconomics shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, until further notice.
  • The value of the prize shall be $500 consisting of $350 and two-year membership of the Society including subscriptions to the Economic Record and Economic Papers.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best year student in BUSN2040 Macroeconomics, irrespective of the degree in which the student may be enrolled.

  • The prizes shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • Two prizes will be awarded.
  • The value of each prize will be $150.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the two most outstanding students in BUSN1009 Quantitative Methods.

Flinders Unibooks Sociology Postgraduate Publication Prize

  • The Flinders Unibooks Sociology Postgraduate Publication Prize shall be awarded annually by a committee appointed by the Sociology Postgraduate Convener to judge the field of publications.
  • The value of the prize shall be $150 Unibooks gift voucher.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best Flinders University sociology postgraduate publication that has been published in the previous financial year. Eligible publications must conform to a HERDC recognised category and shall have been authored by a Flinders University sociology postgraduate student.
  • To be eligible, the institutional affiliation of the author, as recorded on the publication, must be Sociology/SPSS/Flinders University. A co-authored publication shall be eligible for the award when all of the co-authors meet the above criteria. Should a publication be co-authored but not all of the authors are Flinders University sociology postgraduate students, then the publication is not eligible for the award.
  • All publications that meet the above criteria shall be automatically considered for the prize.
  • The Committee may choose not to award the prize in any given year.

The Gery Beswick Memorial Prize

This prize has been established from contributions by friends, family and colleagues to commemorate Gery Beswick, a student, research assistant and part-time tutor in Psychology from 1978 to 1990.

  • The Gery Beswick Memorial Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $100.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the mature age female student who achieves the best results in Third Year Psychology.
  • For the purpose of this prize mature age is defined as thirty years of age or over.

Greek Orthodox Community of SA Inc - Con Marinos AM Prizes

  • There will be two prizes, each to the value of $500.
  • Each faculty will offer one prize to the value of $500. The prizes will be administered jointly by the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law.
  • The prizes will be awarded annually commencing 2001.
  • Students enrolled in an undergraduate degree (including the cross-faculty Bachelor of Arts), offered by the two relevant faculties, will be invited to nominate for a prize based on an outstanding piece of work submitted during the current academic year.
  • Nominations for the prizes will be called for in November of the given year.
  • The selection committee will consist of no more than six members with two members appointed by the Head of Faculty from the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences and the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law and a representative from the Greek Orthodox Community of SA Inc. The Vice-Chancellor will be asked to nominate a Chair for the selection committee.
  • The selection committee, by whatever criteria it decides, will rank the applicants in order of merit and determine the award of the prize for an outstanding piece of work on a subject related to one of the following areas: ethnicity, racism, human rights, multiculturalism, social justice. In the event of there being two or more outstanding pieces of work of equal merit, the prize would be shared equally by the candidates. No award will be made if the selection committee determines that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

The Institute of Public Administration Australia Prizes

  • The Institute of Public Administration Australia Prizes shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee and the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • One prize shall be awarded to the best student of the Flinders Institute of Public Policy and Management completing a masters degree within the Graduate Program in Public Administration ($200).
  • The other prize shall be awarded to the best student in topic POLI2015 Australian Government and Public Policy ($150).

The James Millar Main Prizes in History

These prizes were funded by income from the James Millar Main Memorial Fund which was established by Council in September 1984 with donations from colleagues, students and friends to commemorate the name of James Millar Main, Reader in History and a member of the History staff from 1966 to 1984. The following rules shall apply to the prizes:

  • The James Millar Main Prizes in History shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • One prize shall be awarded to the best student completing honours in history. The value of this prize shall be $250.
  • The other prize shall be awarded to the student completing the major sequence in History with the best results in the final 12 units of upper level topics. The value of this prize shall be $150.

The Jan Lucas Prize in Sociological Theory

  • The Jan Lucas Prize in Sociological Theory shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize will be determined each year by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty on the recommendation of the Department of Sociology. The department's recommendation will follow discussions with the Business Manager and will depend on income available in the fund account each year.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the mature-age female student who achieves the best result in topic SOCI2002 Love, Death and Power: An Introduction to Sociological Theory or, in a year when the topic is not offered, in the topic SOCI2009 Shaping the Future: Social Change in the New Century or SOCI2014 Modernisation and Globalisation.
  • For the purpose of this prize mature-age is defined as 28 years of age or over.

The Keith Hancock Prize in Microeconomics

  • The Keith Hancock Prize in Microeconomics may be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $100.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the student achieving the best results in topic BUSN1013 Economics for Business.

The Michael Wills Prize in Politics

  • The Michael Wills Prize in Politics shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $100.
  • The Michael Wills Prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the best overall result in any two first-year topics taken in the current academic year which satisfy the first level requirements of the major sequence in Politics.

The Noel Tracy Award for Academic Excellence

  • The Prize will be awarded to a maximum of one student by the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences annually, and takes the form of a framed certificate.
  • The framed certificate will be presented to the awardee at the Graduation ceremony, or in absentia if the student is unable to attend the ceremony.
  • The award will be presented to the student who achieves the highest mark in either INTR9112 International Relations Research Project or INTR9912 International Relations Research Paper (or the component topics INTR9112A and B, and INTR9912A and B), and is graduating from the Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) by coursework.
  • In the case of more than one student achieving the highest mark, those students with the highest mark will be ranked in order of their Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) by coursework GPA and the student with the highest GPA will be awarded the prize.
  • In the case of more than one of those students having the highest GPA, the students' individual marks for each topic within the Master of Arts (International Relations in Economy and Trade) by coursework will be reviewed, and the student with the highest total of marks will be awarded the prize.
  • If no student in a single graduating group achieves a grade of Distinction or higher in the requisite topics, the award will not be presented.

The Pearson Education Australia Prize

  • The Pearson Education Australia Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, until further notice.
  • The prize will consist of a $200 Pearson Education book voucher.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in the topic BUSN2025 Marketing Principles.

Perks Prize

  1. The Perks Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  2. The value of the prize shall be $400.
  3. The prize shall be awarded to the best student graduating in the Bachelor of Commerce with a dual specialisation in Accounting and Finance (determined by the highest Grade Point Average for the course).
  4. In the event of two or more students adjudged to be equally outstanding, the Committee may select one only of those students to receive the prize on the basis of their academic record in the topics making up the two specialisatiions, or may determine that the prize and its value be shared equally between or among the students.
  5. No award shall be made if the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences deemes that there is no candidate of sufficient merit.

Pitcher Partners Prize for the Most Outstanding Second Year Accounting Student

  • The Pitcher Partners Prize for the Most Outstanding Second Year Accounting Student shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize shall be $500.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the student obtaining the best aggregate result in BUSN2035 Cost and Management Accounting; BUSN2036 Financial Accounting Issues; BUSN2037 Financial Management; and BUSN2042 Corporations Law.

PKF Prize

  • The PKF Prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize will be $250.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student completing the First Year of the course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Commerce in the five core topics: BUSN1001 Accounting Principles, BUSN1009 Quantitative Methods, BUSN1013 Economics for Business, BUSN1019 Law for Business, and COMP1301 Information Systems in Business.
  • The prize will not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

  • The PwCs Prizes in Accounting shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of each prize shall be $300.
  • One prize shall be awarded to the best student in BUSN2036 Financial Accounting Issues ($300).
  • One prize shall be awarded to the best student completing the Master of Accounting ($300).

The RG Brown Prize

This prize has been funded by donations for the purpose of honouring Emeritus Professor RG Brown who retired at the end of 1989 after almost 25 years as Head of the School of Social Administration.

  • The RG Brown Prize may be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize will be $250 or such other sum as the School of Social and Policy Studies may recommend.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the student who achieves the best aggregate results in the final year of the course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Social Work and Social Planning. Part-time students will be eligible in the year in which they complete the course.

Rotary Club of Marion Prize in Marketing

  • The Rotary Club of Marion Prize in Marketing will be awarded once per year, with a maximum of one recipient.
  • The value of the award shall be $200 annually.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in BUSN3030 Marketing Applications, determined by the topic coordinator on the basis of the overall mark for the topic. In the event of an overall tie, the student who achieves the highest mark for the 'contribution to teamwork' component of the topic will be judged the winner.
  • The prize will be not be awarded if there is no applicant of sufficient merit.

The SA Department for Correctional Services Award

  • The SA Department for Correctional Services Award will be awarded annually by a Selection Committee comprising two academic staff members of the School of Social Work and a nominee of the SA Department for Correctional Services.
  • The value of the award shall be $250.
  • The award will be made to a student enrolled in the course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Social Work and Social Planning.
  • The work to be considered for the award may be either: (a) an essay or a piece of research which focuses on social work in the criminal justice system; or (b) a relevant fieldwork placement yielding some tangible and lasting outcome.

  • The Santos Prize for Perspectives on Accounting shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
  • The value of the prize will be $500.
  • The prize shall be awarded to the best student in the topic BUSN2029 Accounting Theory in Practice.

  • The prize shall be awarded to the most outstanding student in BUSN2031 Business Forecasting.
  • The prize shall be awarded annually by the Faculty Education Committee of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
