Introduction

Consulting fund accounts may be established by academic or general staff. Remuneration from consultancies administered by Flinders Partners Pty Ltd, the delivery of external lectures, marking of theses, and other extra-mural work may be paid into these accounts. Disbursements from consulting funds may be made for expenditure in connection with the work of the person in charge of the fund or for any university related activity.
The funds may not be used for items such as Flinders University parking permits, gifts to staff, books of general interest not related to the staff member’s particular academic area.

Principle

Expenditure and authorisation controls which apply to university funds apply to Consulting Funds. Personal remuneration will not be available from Consulting Funds. Equipment purchased from these funds will be recorded on the University’s Assets Register as the property of the University. Consulting Fund accounts will not be overdrawn.

Procedure

5.5.1 Written requests for consulting funds to be established will be forwarded to the Grants Finance Section.

5.5.2 In the event of the staff member leaving the employment of this university then one of the following will occur:

  1. The balance of the fund may be transferred to a new university ;
  2. The staff member may nominate a ‘bona fide’ university purpose to which the funds may be applied;
  3. If the staff member does not indicate a choice, the funds will be transferred to their faculty or to General Revenue.

5.5.3 Equipment purchased from consulting funds remains the property of the university and will be accounted for in accordance with (section 10.5, Assets).
