| The Awards Committee has adopted
guidelines, to be used by it in conjunction with the above
policy, for considering recommendations for the award. The
guidelines are:
"2.2.1 the title of emeritus professor should be awarded
to all retiring professors who are in good standing. Faculty
Heads will recommend the award of the title to retiring professors
unless there is a concern with the performance of an individual
professor which would provide grounds for withholding such
a recommendation.
"2.2.2 It would normally be expected that, to be eligible
for the title, a professor will have held a chair in the University
for at least five years.
"2.2.3 the award of the title will not be automatic if the
professor concerned is leaving the University to take up a
chair elsewhere."
On 27 May 1999, Council approved the delegation to the Vice-Chancellor
of the power to make the award of the title of Emeritus Professor
within the existing rules for the award and the guidelines
adopted by the Awards Committee.
Council noted that should the Vice-Chancellor have concerns
over a recommendation for the award, the proposal would be
referred to the Awards Committee for consideration.
A list of past professors who have been awarded emeritus
status appears on the University's web site. |
