1 Cleaning 2 Disposal of Confidential Material 3. Removal of Furniture and Equipment 1. Cleaning 1.1 Cleaning of Buildings The University buildings are cleaned between 5.30am and 8.30am, Monday to Friday. The cleaning staff have been instructed not to interfere with papers lying on desks in offices, but to avoid the possibility if important papers and documents being accidentally misplaced during the cleaning process it is advisable for staff members to leave desks and offices tidy before leaving at night. Any enquiries or complaints about cleaning should be referred to the Services Superintendent in the first instance (ext 12120 ). 1.2 Cleaning of Blackboards Blackboards in lecture theatres and lecture rooms will be cleaned by the caretaking staff only twice each day, once before lectures each morning and once during the lunchtime recess. 2. Disposal of Confidential Material All of the University's waste material which is removed by the cleaning staff is taken to the University's Waste Management Centre. As this waste material is not burned after collection, care should be taken to ensure that confidential papers, such as papers containing students' examination marks, are not included with other waste material. The following arrangements have been made for disposal of the University's confidential material: (1) All confidential papers for disposal should be handed in to the School Office; (2) Such papers should be kept in the School Office under satisfactory security; (3) When a significant amount of such material has been accumulated (e.g. enough masterial to fill one waste paper bin) the School Office should inform the Services Superintendent who will arrange for the collection of the material and its disposal; (4) The Secretary of each Examinations Board will arrange for confidential papers to be collected and destroyed after each meeting of the Board. 3. Removal of Furniture and Equipment Each School Office holds a job book in which members of staff are asked to record all requests for jobs to be performed by members of the caretaking staff. This job book is checked each morning and afternoon daily and the Assistant Services Superintendent will supervise the jobs to be done. For urgent moving jobs members of staff should telephone the Assistant Services Superintendent on extension 13079, who will endeavour to carry out the work as soon as practicable. Some jobs, because of their magnitude, or special handling requirements, may not be capable of being undertaken by the University's caretaking staff and an outside contractor may have to be engaged. In such cases an Internal Requisition should be supplied to the Assistant Services Superintendent nominating the account to which the removal costs can be charged.
