1    INTRODUCTION

The guidelines are intended to provide information to designers, consultants and building practitioners engaged in the preparation of documents required for tendering infrastructure works for Flinders University and shall ensure the overall cohesion of campus design without being entirely prescriptive.

There shall be construction standards for various building elements such as structure, cladding, internal finishes, plant and equipment, energy inputs and maintainability. Topics of construction standards shall be reviewed in consultation with Buildings and Property Division staff. These standards may be varied as necessary from time to time to meet changing needs and expectations

In the above context, building design is to conform to the guidelines and community expectations as reflected in current statutory or regulatory requirements.

2   POLICY

There shall be a document known as Infrastructure Design Guidelines (PDF, 748KB) and it shall be the defining document governing the provision and maintenance of all building infrastructure, property and grounds.

3    THE DOCUMENT

Infrastructure Design Guidelines is an on-line document set out to comprehensively address three main areas of control, viz:
(1)   Reference and regulation;

4    IMPLEMENTATION

All designers, consultants and building practitioners are to conform to the intent of the Infrastructure Design Guidelines.

Any proposal for alternative methods, products or execution of works shall have the approval of the Director, Buildings and Property.
