Preamble
1.1 These procedures have been established
to ensure that the University's information and communication
systems are updated promptly when the names of organisational
units (academic and administrative) are changed or when new
units are established.
1.2 Changes to the academic organisation of the
University (such as establishing new academic organisational
units or changing the names of existing ones) are subject
to Council approval on the advice of Academic Senate, in
accordance with the terms of reference of these committees.
1.3 Changes to names of schools, departments, units,
centres, divisions and the like have a particular impact
on:
- all administrative computing systems such as student administration
(Banner), human resources (Concept) and finance (Oracle)
- the work of the Planning Services Unit
- staff working with the telephone and PABX system
- staff in the Mail Room
- staff in the Public Affairs Office

Promulgating changed or new academic organisational
unit names
2.1 Faculty Registrars to forward the proposal,
which includes an intended effective date, to the DAR as early
as possible.
2.2 DAR to forward the proposal to the Secretary,
Academic Senate, for action.
2.3 DAR to circulate the proposal (for information,
advanced notice and action where appropriate) to:
