POLICY AND PROCEDURES |

1 |
[Associate Lecturer (Level A Academic)] The level of commencing salary within the Level A salary scale will be determined on the recommendation of the Appointment Committee having due regard to the possession of relevant qualifications and relevant experience. In respect of the latter, experience other than as a university academic, eg clinical or professional experience, is not automatically accepted as counting fully on a year-for-year basis. In submitting a recommendation involving recognition of previous experience (other than as a university academic), the Appointment Committee is required to indicate its assessment of the degree of equivalence and its reasons for that assessment.
1.1 [Doctoral qualification] Notwithstanding the above, a Level A academic who upon appointment holds or during appointment gains a relevant doctoral qualification shall be employed at a salary point no lower than the fourth level of the Level A salary scale. |
| |
2 |
[Lecturer (Level B Academic)] Appointment to the grade of Lecturer will not normally be made above the fourth level of the salary scale for lecturers (Level B academics). Subject to that general proviso, relevant equivalent experience as a lecturer will be taken into account in determining the level of commencing salary. In this respect, experience other than as a university lecturer, eg clinical or professional experience, is not automatically accepted as counting fully on a year-for-year basis. In submitting a recommendation involving recognition of previous experience (other than as a university lecturer), the Appointment Committee is required to indicate its assessment of the degree of equivalence and its reasons for that assessment. |

[Senior Lecturer (Level C Academic)] Relevant equivalent experience will be taken into account. In this respect, experience other than as a university senior lecturer, eg clinical or professional experience, is not automatically accepted as counting fully on a year-for-year basis. In submitting a recommendation involving recognition of previous experience (other than as a university senior lecturer), the Appointment Committee is required to indicate its assessment of the degree of equivalence and its reasons for that assessment. |

[Associate Professor (Level D Academic)] Relevant equivalent experience will be taken into account. In this respect, experience other than as a associate professor (or reader), eg clinical or professional experience, is not automatically accepted as counting fully on a year-for-year basis. In submitting a recommendation involving recognition of previous experience, the Appointment Committee is required to indicate its assessment of the degree of equivalence and its reasons for that assessment.
