Flinders has adopted a strategy for identifying Areas of Strategic Research Investment (ASRI) to which research support is differentially directed.
An ASRI is defined as:
an area in which Flinders has a reputation as a national and/or international leader, or in which there is demonstrated potential to develop such a reputation.
This approach to strategic investment in research (in terms of level of initial funding, and the extent of the refocusing of research activities) reflects a more targeted approach to the allocation of research resources. It is intended to maximise research outputs and income and attract high calibre research students and staff.
It also provides a way of developing higher levels of research performance in early career researchers and less active researchers. In this way, ASRIs are contributing to succession planning in relation to research performance.
