About Research and Higher Degrees

The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences has a vibrant research culture. Research in the Faculty spans a diversity of disciplines in the social sciences. Our researchers contribute to the advancement of knowledge that impacts on the local, national and international community, and enhances the Faculty’s teaching programs.

The Faculty builds on a proud history of social sciences research since the foundation of the University in 1966. Our continued research excellence is evident from the CWTS Leiden and QS World University rankings which highlight the world-class quality of social sciences research at Flinders University.

The interdisciplinary nature of Social and Behavioural Sciences enables engagement with the other Faculties within the University, as well as external institutions (including government, non-government, not for profit, clinical and allied health agencies).

Our researchers are regularly called on for expert media commentary on topics ranging from politics across Australia and the Asia Pacific to issues of health, wellbeing and development in communities. Research outcomes are communicated to both academic and public audiences, and inform policy decision making.

Many of our researchers supervise Higher Degree Research students. Find a supervisor here .

Aligned with the Flinders University Strategic Plan , the Faculty continues to implement its Research Action Plan to provide training and development opportunities for its researchers.

Research within the Faculty is carried out within its four schools and five research centres.
