Welcome to Government

We offer an exciting range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in politics, public policy, public management and international relations. We undertake high quality research engaged with governments and end users, research-led teaching and innovative courses that prepare students to make a difference in the world.

Among the first disciplines established at Flinders in the late 1960s, the disciplines of Politics and Public Policy and International Relations have built a reputation among the most respected in the nation.

We undertake engagement with the community on political events of local, national and international significance. As well as being actively engaged in enriching local public sector knowledge and practice, our staff reach beyond Australia to our region through research, education and executive training. Government at Flinders also prides itself on its long standing and active contributions to the professional advancement of political science and international relations in Australia.

Our government and international relations programs are taught by staff deeply committed to guiding students to gain the most from their University experience. Students are supported by the University and by our academic and professional staff to advance their knowledge and skills through a cohesively designed and engaging theoretical and applied learning journey.

We provide our students with a wealth of opportunities to study abroad and develop work ready skills, through simulated professional experiences, practical industry placements and internships available locally, nationally and internationally.

Our students are equipped with knowledge and skills to pursue careers in the public, not for profit and private sectors, both locally and internationally in areas including the parliamentary sector, policy analysis and advice, public administration, foreign affairs, humanitarian services, journalism or research.
