Students undertaking the Masters of Social Work (Graduate Entry) and Bachelor of Social Work and Social Planning are required to undertake Field Education placements. Placements are in a range of settings for example health, disability, age care, education, corrections and child protection. Students are involved in diverse activities including working with individuals, groups and communities, social policy and research projects.
The public policy internship provides an opportunity for students to undertake an intensive placement in a public sector organisation during their postgraduate studies. During their placement students undertake a significant project for the organisation related to a public policy issue or analysis. Students are required to apply for entry.
The SA Parliamentary Internship Internship is jointly convened by Flinders University, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia. Under the formal supervision of a member of the academic staff, students undertake an internship within the South Australian Parliament attached to the office of a Member of Parliament or, in a few cases, with an agency or department of the South Australian Public Service or other organisation. Quotas apply.
High achieving final year undergraduate students in the disciplines of Politics, Public Policy, Women’s Studies and Sociology have the opportunity to support a non-government organisation, government department or a private company with a research project . Instead of a continuing work experience placement, students undertake a semester long (12 week) research project on an issue facing an organisation.
