Welcome to Social Work and Social Planning. The discipline has for almost 40 years provided quality education in the area of Social Work, and more recently in Social Planning and Loss, Grief and Trauma.

We offer study at the undergraduate level in the Bachelor of Social Work and Social Planning, and at the postgraduate level in the Master of Social Work - both courses are professional social work qualifications accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.  The School offers the Graduate Certificate in Loss, Grief & Trauma Counselling, and the Master of Social Work. In addition, supervision for the research degrees of Master of Arts (Social Work) and Doctor of Philosophy is available.

Our mission is to educate students in the critical analysis, administration and implementation of social welfare policies and services. We aim to foster imagination and lateral thinking in the exercising of judgements which can be applied flexibly and credibly in macro and micro situations while working towards social justice. The quality of our educational standards and the competence of our graduates lie in their abilities to demonstrate the logical and systematic application of clearly delineated knowledge and values within the context of social welfare structures. The School also offers a Graduate Certificate in Child Well-being and Protection, and a Graduate Certificate in Social Planning.

Our discipline aims to practise the values that we teach and to engage with others in pursuing a more just society. The discipline is active in community engagement as we seek to contribute to building supportive communities. Our values inform our research activities, which focus on understanding and responding to social issues and needs.
