Social Work and Social Planning is part of a global social work profession aimed at promoting tolerance, understanding, peaceful relationships and human dignity among the communities of the world.

We attempt to provide a curriculum that embraces ideas from various perspectives as reflective of our student population. International students from differing cultures strengthen and deepen our discipline area and influence teaching, curriculum and research activities.  These students make a valuable contribution to our academic and social life here at Flinders.

In order to better prepare our international students to study social work in Australia we hold an introductory seminar titled Australian context for social work. Topics covered include:

  • Introducing the diversity of students in the field of social work
  • Communicating between cultures
  • Layers of government: Understanding the three tiers
  • Cultural diversity: A journey from white Australia to multiculturalism
  • Adelaide's social diversity

  • Council of International Fellowship
  • Centrelink: The role of social work
  • Families SA: Refugees
