Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Grant: Reducing Aboriginal Imprisonment: An Offence-Specific Study

We are seeking an outstanding candidate to take up a PhD scholarship attached to the ARC Discovery Project Reducing Aboriginal Imprisonment: An Offence-Specific Study.

The project is based at Flinders University (Principal Supervisor: Professor Mark Halsey, Associate Supervisor: Associate Professor David Bright).

The aim of the PhD project will be to identify service gaps as well as examples of “best practice” in throughcare options for Aboriginal (ex)prisoners sentenced for AICI and OAJP in SA and NT. The conduct of interviews with professionals responsible for the delivery of key services/programs (e.g. NGOs, mentors, etc.) will be of central importance.

A practical understanding of the factors likely to impact the causes of Aboriginal over imprisonment as well as the factors associated with return to custody will be particularly relevant. Indigenous candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
