Undergraduate Scholarships

Changes to commonwealth funded scholarships
In 2010, the Australian Government proposed to replace the Commonwealth Scholarships with the Student Start-up Scholarships for undergraduate university students and the Relocation Scholarships for rural and remote undergraduate students. Legislation to introduce the Government's proposed changes to student payments, including the introduction of new scholarships, has not been approved by Parliament. The Government has indicated that it intends to reintroduce the legislation to Parliament early in 2010. Students who are considering taking a gap year before going to university should be aware that the current arrangements could change if the Government's legislation is approved. Further information is available from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website.

Students who are already in receipt of a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship or a Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship, will continue to receive payments through the Flinders University Scholarships Office.

Scholarships for new students commencing in 2010
Flinders University will have a number of scholarships available to students commencing undergraduate courses in 2010. The University is currently waiting on advice from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations about the proposed new commonwealth supported schemes before opening its own scholarship applications. Flinders University expects to have various scholarships available for 2010 for the following equity groups:

  • students from rural and regional areas
  • students in financial need
  • women
  • students of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Straight descent
Availability and application details for these scholarships will be published here on the scholarships website, the scholarships newsletter and in the scholarships database as soon as they are confirmed.
