International Postgraduate Research Scholarship

Applications for International Postgraduate Research Scholarships commencing in 2013 will open mid June, 2012.

International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) (formerly EIPRS) are awarded to international students on the basis of academic merit and research potential. The scholarships enable suitably qualified applicants to commence a full-time research higher degree. International students are encouraged to apply for this opportunity to study for a Master or PhD at Flinders University.

Applicants must be a citizen of any overseas country, except New Zealand, and, satisfy the University's academic entry requirements for a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research, including the English proficiency levels set by Flinders University for international students. Students for whom English is a foreign language will need to provide evidence of their English language competence; and not hold a Research Doctorate degree; and not hold a Research Masters degree, if seeking an IPRS to undertake a Research Masters degree; have not held an Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) scholarship within the two years prior to the commencement of their IPRS; not have commenced study towards a Research Doctorate degree (or Research Masters degree if seeking an IPRS to support Masters study) within Australia prior to 1 January 2013. There is no application fee for the International Postgrdauate Research Scholarship.

The Australian government pays the international student tuition fees charged by Flinders University for a research higher degree on behalf of IPRS recipients. The IPRS also provides the recipient and dependents with student health cover. IPRS students are not required to pay for visa application fees for themselves or their dependents.

In addition, Flinders University may provide, to students with outstanding prior studies, a Flinders stipend to accompany the IPRS. The Flinders stipend provides the recipient with a generous living allowance paid at the rate of $23,728 per annum (2012 rate). It is tax exempt and indexed annually. The University reserves the right not to award a Flinders stipend. IPRS students may also receive a Dependent Child Allowance in respect of a child (or children) up to 18 years of age who is dependent on the award holder's income and who is residing with the scholarship holder in Adelaide.

An IPRS student who moves to Adelaide from overseas is eligible for an establishment allowance (after arrival at Flinders) of up to $1,485 to assist with relocation costs and airfares, provided receipts can be produced by the student.

The scholarship is tenable for up to three years for a Research Doctorate degree and up to two years for a Research Masters degree. Successful applicants are required to undertake full time study. IPRS scholarship recipients should plan to commence study at Flinders by 31 March 2013.
