Flinders University: AJ & IM Naylon PhD Scholarship

Internal Closing Date: 28-10-2011  

This scholarship is to enable a suitably qualified graduate to carry out a research project relevant to agriculture, particularly in the areas of biodiversity and conservation, biotechnology, environmental health, environmental protection and inland aquaculture, leading to a PhD. Applicants for the scholarships must: be an Australian citizen or a New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident at the closing date for applications; and have completed a bachelor degree with First Class Honours or an equivalent level of academic attainment; and be commencing a PhD at Flinders University. The scholarship will provide a tax-free stipend of $27,651 pa, (2011 rate) for full-time study for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. Flinders University: Advanced Community Care Scholarship

One scholarship is available for a PhD student to undertake a research project within the Faculty of Health Sciences in the area of coordinating community services to provide safe alternatives to unnecessary hospitalisation, improving the health outcomes of people through developing and implementing health delivery models whereby community organisations are capable of providing an extended range of care services in the home or community setting. The scholarship will provide an indexed tax-free stipend of approximately $23,728 pa (2012 rate) for full-time study for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. Application kits can be obtained from the Higher Degree Administration and Scholarships Office and can be downloaded from the scholarships website. Intending applicants should enclose with their application, a covering letter indicating that they wish to be considered for this scholarship.

Flinders University: Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs)

Australian Postgraduate Awards are awarded on the basis of academic merit and research potential to enable suitably qualified applicants to undertake full-time study towards a research higher degree (Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research). Awards will normally only be available to those who: are Australian citizens; or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand citizens; and  have an appropriate Honours 1 (or equivalent) undergraduate degree; and are enrolling as full-time students; and will commence or are continuing a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research. The scholarships pay an indexed stipend of $23,728 pa tax-free (2012 full-time rate), include a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees, and generous allowances and leave provisions. Australian Postgraduate Awards are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree by research, subject to satisfactory progress. Flinders University: Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law Top-Up Scholarship

Internal Closing Date: 25-11-2011  

In 2012 the Faculty of Education, Humanities and Law will offer two Top-Up Scholarships to candidates who are recipients of an APA or FURS through the normal University scholarship process for the 2012 round. The recipients will self-nominate and be supported by their potential supervisor. Their project will further strengthen research output in an identified field within the Faculty. The Faculty Top-Up Scholarship will provide an additional stipend of $7,000 in the first year and $5,000 in the second and third years. Applicants must be accepted into a PhD or Masters degree in the Faculty of EHL for 2012. The applicant must be the recipient of a 2012 Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or Flinders University Research Scholarship (FURS) and in their first year of study. Students already enrolled in a research higher degree at Flinders University are not eligible for award of this scholarship. Potential candidates will be invited by the Faculty’s Research Coordinator (Research Higher Degrees) to submit the self-nomination form. Flinders University: Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards (FSERA)

The Faculty of Science and Engineering each year offers a small number of research awards to applicants for postgraduate research scholarships, who do not obtain an Australian Postgraduate Award or Flinders University Research Scholarship. This award will only be available to applicants who will commence or are continuing a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. The scholarships pay an indexed stipend of approximately $23,728 pa tax-free (2012 full-time rate), include a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees. Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. Flinders University: Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS)

Internal Closing Date: 28-10-2011  

The scholarship pays an indexed stipend of $23,728 pa tax-free (2012 full-time rate) and provides generous allowances and leave provisions. Awards will normally only be available to those who: are Australian citizens; or New Zealand citizens; or have been granted permanent resident status; or are an international student who has completed an honours or equivalent qualification at Flinders University no more than three years prior to the application closing date. Australian or New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents will be provided with a Research Training Scheme place for a maximum of four years which provides an exemption from tuition fee costs. A limited number of fee waiver scholarships will be available for International students. International students who are not in receipt of a fee waiver scholarship will be required to pay the normal tuition fees. Flinders University Research Scholarships are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. Flinders University: Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science

The Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science have been established to encourage postgraduate and other advanced research of original or progressive nature leading to advancement of knowledge in any branch or aspect of law, medicine or science. The scholarships pay an indexed stipend which is 10% above the Australian Postgraduate Award rate for law and science students. Joyner Scholarships are tenable for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree. Flinders University: Overseas Field Trip Grant for Semester 1

The University has established the Overseas Field Trip Grant to provide funding towards overseas field trips for competent postgraduate research students whose theses would be greatly improved by the opportunity to undertake research and collection of data which is inaccessible in Australia. The value of the grant will normally be $2500 towards travel and living expenses. Applications are for awards tenable until July of the following year. Flinders University: Overseas Travelling Fellowship for Semester 1

Internal Closing Date: 05-10-2011  

The Overseas Travelling Fellowship is the most prestigious award offered by the University to higher degree research students. The Overseas Travelling Fellowship has been established to enable full-time or part-time PhD students who have demonstrated outstanding aptitude for independent research, to undertake short periods of further study or further research in approved universities or other institutions outside Australia, provided a clear advantage to the thesis and to the University is to be gained from the student's experience. Flinders University: Poche Centre/FURCS PhD Scholarships in health services implications of demographic change

Internal Closing Date: 28-10-2011  

Up to two PhD Scholarships are available to support research into the health service implications of demographic change in small communities in the Northern Territory and/or South Australia. The scholarships will have a value of $22,860 per annum (APA rate) for three years with a possible 6 month extension. Scholarships will normally only be available to those who: (a) are Australian citizens; or permanent residents of Australia; or New Zealand citizens; and (b) have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours 2a (or equivalent) degree in degree in human geography/demography, or health management; and (c) are enrolling as full-time students (part-time awards are available in certain circumstances); and (d) will commence or are continuing a PhD; and (e) have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies. Flinders University: Postgraduate Research Scholarships

In 2011, Flinders University will offer a range of postgraduate research scholarships. Each postgraduate research scholarship pays a stipend (living allowance) between $23,728 and $34,036 (2012 rates) which is tax-free for full-time study. Applicants must be: Australian citizens or New Zealand citizens (may not be eligible for some of the scholarships listed) or have been granted permanent resident status; and have completed an excellent undergraduate degree; and have completed at least four years of tertiary education studies at a high level of achievement and have an appropriate Honours undergraduate degree; be enrolling as full-time students (part-time awards are available in certain circumstances); and be commencing or continuing a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research in 2012; and have had their candidature accepted in the area in which they propose to undertake their studies. Additional eligibility criteria apply to some awards.

Flinders University: Professor Lowitja O'Donoghue Indigenous Student Postgraduate Research Scholarship

This scholarship was established to enable an Indigenous student to undertake a program of full time study at Flinders University leading to a Doctorate by research or a Masters degree by research. This scholarship provides an indexed tax-free stipend ($27,651 per annum for full-time study in 2011), for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree by research. The scholarship offers generous leave provisions and allowances. The successful applicant will be eligible to receive a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees. Flinders University: Research Student Conference Travel Grants for Semester 1

Internal Closing Date: 30-11-2011  

The University provides limited funds for assistance on a competitive basis for travel to conferences by postgraduate research students, in order to present a paper or poster which will result in a significant improvement to the quality of the thesis. Students should apply even if their poster or paper presentation has not been accepted by the application closing date, as conditional offers are made subject to confirmation of acceptance. Retrospective or late applications are not accepted. Assistance will normally be based on the equivalent cost of a return economy class or concession airfare to the location of the conference venue.

Flinders University: Short Term International Mobility Scholarship for Semester 1

Internal Closing Date: 01-10-2011  

The scholarship will be awarded for a period of study undertaken overseas of not less than two weeks and not more than six weeks. The scholarship is valued at $500 and is provided to contribute towards the cost of airfares, accommodation and incidentals. Applicants must have successfully completed at least 36 units of their undergraduate degree at Flinders University, or be enrolled in the Honours year. The overseas study must count as a minimum of 3 units of credit towards the course of study at Flinders University.
