Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand (ACSANZ): ACSANZ Canadian Studies Undergraduate Essay Prize

The Association for Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand is pleased to announce the inaugural Canadian Studies Undergraduate Essay Competition. The competition recognizes and encourages scholarship in Canadian studies by undergraduate students enrolled in any faculty at universities in Australia and New Zealand. The competition has a cash prize of AUD $1,200. The essay must be on Canada or have a substantial Canadian component (e.g. a comparative study between Canada and another country/region). Entries from across a broad range of faculties are welcome, however the competition is especially suited to the humanities and social sciences. Students are encouraged to submit an essay which has been prepared as part of their assessment for an undergraduate course. Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT): AVCAT Scholarships & Grants

In 2011 the Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) are expecting to give financial assistance for up to 65 students under many different scholarship schemes. All schemes help the selected children in need of the Australian veteran community with the costs of tertiary education. Scholarships range in value up to $9,000 ($3,000 per annum for three years). Applicants are considered for all schemes for which they are eligible. Australian War Memorial: Summer Vacation Scholarships for history students

Scholarship Type: Postgraduate Vacation, Undergraduate Vacation and Summer

The Australian War Memorial provides one or more Summer Vacation Scholarships for history students in the third or fourth year of an undergraduate course, or who are undertaking early-stage postgraduate studies. The scholarships are also open to students enrolled in museum or public history courses. Each scholar is allocated a project relevant to the Memorial's research interests. An honorarium of $420 per week is payable for the duration of the scholarship (provided the holders are not in receipt of a regular, full-time income) and free accommodation is provided. A return fare between a scholarship holder's home and Canberra will also be provided. Flinders University: Cheung Kong Student Mobility Subsidy for Semester 1

This award is designed to assist students to undertake an exchange program at partner universities in Hong Kong and Japan to enhance their Flinders University studies by providing an international perspective.  Subject to the availability of funding, one or more subsidies valued at up to $5,000 each may be awarded in each semester. To be eligible for the subsidy, applicants must: be students enrolled in an undergraduate course of Flinders University; and be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and have successfully completed at least 36 units of the undergraduate degree at Flinders University, or be enrolled in the Honours year; and be accepted into the Flinders University Exchange program; and be enrolled in full-time study while undertaking study overseas; and have their overseas study count as credit towards their course of study at Flinders University; and have achieved a grade point average of 4.5 or more in the course for which the subsidy is being sought.

To be eligible, applicants must: be students enrolled in an undergraduate course of Flinders University; and be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and have successfully completed at least 36 units of the undergraduate degree at Flinders University and have achieved a grade point average of 4.5 or more in the course for which the subsidy is being sought. Flinders University: Flinders University International Exchange Scholarship for Semester 1

The Flinders University International Exchange Scholarship assists students to undertake part of their course of study overseas through the Flinders University Exchange program. Up to thirty scholarships valued at $1,000 each will be awarded each year. The scholarship will be awarded for one full-time semester of study undertaken overseas. Applicants must have successfully completed at least 36 units of their undergraduate degree at Flinders University, or be enrolled in the Honours year and be enrolled full-time while studying overseas. The overseas study must count as credit towards their Flinders University degree. Applications must be made on the prescribed form, which can be downloaded from the University website, or available from the Higher Degree Administration and Scholarships Office.

Flinders University: Joan Durdin Scholarship for International Study for Nursing and Midwifery Students for Semester 1

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of: the quality of the proposal for the program of study as described in the application; the extent to which the program of study would enhance the learning of the study; and academic merit. Flinders University: Lesley Shorne Memorial Scholarship

The Lesley Shorne Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011. The scholarship is designed to provide assistance to a mature age woman enrolled in the third year of a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Flinders University. The scholarship will be offered annually and will be for the sum of $2,500. Applicants for the scholarship must be: Australian citizens; and women of at least 25 years of age on 1 January of the year the scholarship is to be awarded; and enrolled in or enrolling in the third year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Flinders University; and able to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of women’s well-being in a health or health related area.

Flinders University: OS-HELP Loans for Semester 1

This subsidy is available to assist students to undertake an exchange program at partner universities in India Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore to enhance their Flinders University studies by providing an international perspective. Subject to the availability of funding, one or more subsidies valued at up to $5,611 each may be awarded in each semester. To be eligible, applicants must: be students enrolled in an undergraduate course of Flinders University; and be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia; and have successfully completed at least 36 units of the undergraduate degree at Flinders University and have achieved a grade point average of 4.5 or more in the course for which the subsidy is being sought. Flinders University: Short Term International Mobility Scholarship for Semester 1

Scholarship Type: Undergraduate Flinders University students only, Postgraduate Coursework, Undergraduate Continuing, Undergraduate Exchange and Overseas study

The scholarship will be awarded for a period of study undertaken overseas of not less than two weeks and not more than six weeks. The scholarship is valued at $500 and is provided to contribute towards the cost of airfares, accommodation and incidentals. Applicants must have successfully completed at least 36 units of their undergraduate degree at Flinders University, or be enrolled in the Honours year. The overseas study must count as a minimum of 3 units of credit towards the course of study at Flinders University.

Flinders University: UMAP Student Mobility Scholarship for Semester 1

This award is available to assist students to undertake an exchange program at partner universities in North America and selected South American countries to enhance their Flinders University studies by providing an international perspective. Scholarships will available for students travelling to Canada and Chile in semester 1 2011. Subject to the availability of funding, one or more subsidies valued at up to $5,000 each may be awarded in each semester. The UMAP Student Mobility Subsidy will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the extent to which an applicant’s proposed program of study will enhance their Flinders University studies by providing an international perspective. Interested students should consult with their Faculty Office before applying to ensure that their proposed program of study is acceptable for credit towards their Flinders University course.

Flinders University: Yunggorendi Honours Scholarship

The Flinders Yunggorendi First Nations Centre for Higher Education and Research has established an Honours Scholarship to provide financial assistance to an undergraduate student undertaking an honours program at Flinders University. Subject to the availability of funds, two scholarships valued at $3,000 each will be awarded annually. The Scholarship is funded by Yunggorendi First Nations Centre for Higher Education and Research, and will continue as long as there is sufficient funding. Applicants must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and a personal statement. Applications must be made on the prescribed form which can be downloaded from the University’s website, or available from Yunggorendi First Nations Centre. Applications must be lodged by the designated date each year for commencement in either semester one or semester two of the specified academic year.

Government of South Australia - Department of Education and Children's Services (DECS): DECS Country Teaching Scholarships - Round 1

DECS Country Teaching Scholarships: support eligible teacher education students while undertaking study in identified areas of need; and guarantee recipients permanent employment with DECS. Law Council of Australia: John Koowarta Reconciliation Law Scholarship

McDonald's Australia / Charlie Bell School of Management: Charlie Bell Scholarship

In recognition of the contribution made by the former McDonald’s Corporation CEO, Charlie Bell, a scholarship for future leaders has been created in his name. The Scholarship, administered by the Charlie Bell School of Management, recognises Charlie’s commitment towards the provision of ongoing learning and education. The Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future Leaders will reward up to 3 successful applicants with a contribution of up to $15,000 towards tuition fees for their chosen undergraduate or postgraduate study. Science and Industry Endowment Fund: SIEF Undergraduate Program - Honours Scholarships

The 2012 SIEF Scholarships program includes up to ten honours scholarships with a focus on areas with a mathematics/numeracy component, and the aim of helping to develop undergraduates into independent researchers. Scholarships are for one year. A grant of $10,000 will consist of $5,000 as a contribution towards supporting the student, and $5,000 operating for each proposal chosen. SIEF strongly encourages use of consumable funds to support student travel to a national conference in the relevant field. The 2012 Application Form is available at the website below. South Australian Department of Education and Children's Services : New Beginnings Scholarships

The $14,000 New Beginnings Scholarship targets students completing a postgraduate education qualification to teach secondary mathematics or science upon graduation. 2011 scholarships will be available to full-time postgraduate education students studying at a South Australian university in their final year of education study who will be qualified to teach from the beginning of 2012. Scholarships are also available to professionals intending to study a postgraduate education course in 2011. Scholarship holders will be expected to: (1) sign an agreement to teach within DECS following the successful completion of their teacher education program; (2) remain enrolled at a South Australian University on a full time basis once they commence their teaching studies; (3) successfully complete the course within the specified time frame; (4) commence teaching in one of the nominated districts the year following completion of their studies. The Australian National University (ANU): Neville Bonner Memorial Scholarship for Honours in Political Science

Neville Bonner Memorial Scholarship is for an Indigenous Australian to study Honours or combined Honours in Political Science or related subjects such as government, political geography, political history, political anthropology or political economics. The Scholarship is available for study at Honours level at any Australian university. The Scholarship is equivalent in value to the Australian Postgraduate Award stipend (approximately $22,860 in 2011) plus HECS paid up front. You are eligible to apply for the Neville Bonner Scholarship if: you are an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and you have been offered a place in Honours in 2011; or you have good reason to believe you are likely to be offered a place at Honours level in 2011; and your subject area is in the right subject field. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) Research Foundation: Honours Research Scholarships at the Basil Hetzel Institute for Translational Health Research

eResearch SA: ICT Summer Scholarships

eResearch SA is offering up to 10 summer scholarships for students to undertake eResearch projects that utilise advanced information and communication technologies (ICTs) to support research. Scholarships are available for a period of up to 8 weeks during the summer vacation (November–February), and come with a tax-free stipend of $300 per week. Students will receive training in eResearch technologies and work on a project that relates to any aspect of eResearch SA’s activities or services in: research collaboration; data management and sharing; high performance computing; and visualisation and haptics. Projects may be undertaken in any discipline and will be supervised by University academics with assistance from eResearch SA staff. Students will be matched to an appropriate project, and may indicate particular areas of interest or experience in their application. Students can also suggest project topics and supervisors in their application, if they have agreement from the proposed supervisor. Example project areas are listed on the eResearch SA website. Applicants should be students from one of the public South Australian universities who are currently enrolled in at least their second year of study, and have a strong academic record. Students awarded a scholarship will be expected to produce a short written report at the end of the scholarship period.
