Under a new scheme introduced by the Commonwealth Government, funding has been provided to support research commercialisation training. The Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) provides high quality research commercialisation training for the next generation of Australian researchers as a means of equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovations to market. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand citizens, and be enrolled as a full-time student in a Doctorate by research at Flinders University and have at least 12 months of candidature remaining. Up to eight scholarships will be available in 2008. Recipients of the CTS Scholarship will enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialisation at The University of Adelaide. The CTS Scholarship provides an exemption from tuition fees for the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialisation and an allowance equivalent to 6 months of an Australian Postgraduate Award stipend.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering has available a number of postgraduate research scholarships for domestic students who will commence in Semester 2 2008, a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Successful applicants must be available to commence their postgraduate study by 1 October 2008. This award will be offered on the basis of academic merit and research potential. The scholarships pay an indexed stipend of $20,007 pa tax-free (2008 full-time rate), and includes a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees. Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. The purpose of the Thesis Write-Up Stipend is to assist non-scholarship holder research higher degree students to write-up and submit their theses and pays the equivalent of a Flinders University Research Scholarship for: six months full-time in the case of Doctorate by research students; or three months full-time in the case of Masters degree by research students.

This scheme for students is available during Semester 2 only. Applicants must be in the second or later year of an award of the University; demonstrate that the provision of the grant will assist the student to continue their enrolment in their current courses; show that other sources of financial assistance have been sought and are unavailable or inappropriate. Preference will be given to: Australian students or students with permanent residency; students who have not accessed a grant previously; students facing particular financial difficulty in continuing their studies in the second half of the year; undergraduate students. The value of individual grants awarded will not exceed $500 and will depend on the number of applications received and the individual aspects of each case. In accordance with this aim, the AAH includes in its activities the Publication Subsidy Scheme to provide modest financial support of up to AU$3,000 for the publication of scholarly works of high quality in the Humanities. The scheme is designed to assist Humanities scholars based in Australia. Both independent scholars and those working within an institution are eligible for the scheme. Applications are assessed by the AAH Awards Committee and rated according to academic merit and demonstrated need for a subsidy. The applicant should be able to prove that he or she has limited access to funds to complete publication of the work, or that without the subsidy the work would go either unpublished or be published in a diminished capacity.

The Arthur Wilson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 with funds from the Arthur Wilson Memorial Foundation. The Foundation had been created in 1951 after a public appeal was launched to perpetuate the memory of the late Arthur Wilson, an outstanding gynaecologist and obstetrician. The Scholarship is open to graduates in medicine or science. The Scholarship is for a period of two years, conditional on a satisfactory progress report six months into the Scholarship. The Scholarship is to be undertaken in a hospital, university department or research institute. Time spent undertaking the Research Fellowship may be recognised for part of the pre-Fellowship training for the FRANZCOG, or towards the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program requirements of the College for Fellows. The Beresford Buttery Travel Grant for further training in obstetrical and gynaecological ultrasound has been provided from donations to the Beresford Buttery Trust Fund, to commemorate the outstanding contribution of the late Beresford Buttery to the development of obstetrical and gynaecological ultrasound. The Fellowship shall be in the form of a grant to assist the successful applicant to travel to any country for the purpose of making a particular study of any scientific, research or clinical subject relating to the practice of obstetrical or gynaecological ultrasound. It shall not be awarded for the purpose of assisting the applicant to gain a postgraduate degree. The travel grant is open to medical graduates who are committed to a career providing obstetrical and/or gynaecological ultrasound services in Australia or New Zealand, and who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand. The grant shall be used towards air travel/accommodation to and from the place of study to the value of $A3000. The Greek/Australian International Legal Conference invites applications for two travelling fellowships, to attend the 12th Greek/Australian International Legal and Medical Conference, to be held on Samos, Greece (31 May - 6 June 2009). Applicants should be graduates in Law or Medicine, under 40 years of age and currently enrolled in post-graduate study within either Faculty. The successful applicants will be required to present a learned paper of some 30 minutes duration at the Conference. Papers that address the Conference theme "Our Challenged World: how can law and medicine respond" and/or Greek Australian relationships are encouraged. The Fellowships, one to a graduate in Law, one to a graduate in Medicine are in the form of a grant which will include a return Economy Class airfare from Australia to Greece (Samos), Conference registration and the cost of accommodation at the Conference venue for the duration of the Conference. Applications are now invited for the Young Investigator Award. This Award is aimed at recognising and promoting the outstanding research performed by young investigators, as well as providing an opportunity for young researchers to present their research in a way that is readily understood by the general population. The Award provides an ideal forum for promoting media interest in the excellent and varied research at the hosting institutions and in the high quality investigators performing this research.
The finalists will be asked to present their work at the Award event on the evening of 22 October 2008. The winner of the Award will receive The Hon Carolyn Pickles Award of $10,000, including a prize of $1,000 (untied). Prizes of $3,000 (including $1,000 untied) will be awarded for the runners-up.
