Flinders University: Australian Leadership Awards

This scholarship is intended for students who are already leaders or have the potential to assume leadership roles that can influence social and economic policy reform and development outcomes, both in their own countries and in the Asia-Pacific region. Flinders University: Commercialisation Training Scheme Scholarship

Scholarship Type: Postgraduate Research
Under a new scheme introduced by the Commonwealth Government, funding has been provided to support research commercialisation training. The Commercialisation Training Scheme (CTS) provides high quality research commercialisation training for the next generation of Australian researchers as a means of equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovations to market. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand citizens, and be enrolled as a full-time student in a Doctorate by research at Flinders University and have at least 12 months of candidature remaining. Up to eight scholarships will be available in 2008. Recipients of the CTS Scholarship will enrol in the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialisation at The University of Adelaide. The CTS Scholarship provides an exemption from tuition fees for the Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology Commercialisation and an allowance equivalent to 6 months of an Australian Postgraduate Award stipend.
Flinders University: Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards (FSERA) - mid-year round

The Faculty of Science and Engineering has available a number of postgraduate research scholarships for domestic students who will commence in Semester 2 2008, a Masters degree by research or Doctorate by research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Successful applicants must be available to commence their postgraduate study by 1 October 2008. This award will be offered on the basis of academic merit and research potential. The scholarships pay an indexed stipend of $20,007 pa tax-free (2008 full-time rate), and includes a Research Training Scheme place, which provides an exemption from tuition fees. Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards are tenable at Flinders University for up to three years for a Doctorate by research, or up to two years for a Masters degree, subject to satisfactory progress. Application kits for Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Awards are available from the Higher Degree Administration and Scholarships Office and can be downloaded from Flinders University's scholarships website.
Flinders University: Thesis Write-Up Stipends - Round 2

Scholarship Type: Postgraduate Flinders University students only, Postgraduate Research
The purpose of the Thesis Write-Up Stipend is to assist non-scholarship holder research higher degree students to write-up and submit their theses and pays the equivalent of a Flinders University Research Scholarship for: six months full-time in the case of Doctorate by research students; or three months full-time in the case of Masters degree by research students.
Flinders Campus Community Services: Second Semester Grants

Scholarship Type: Undergraduate Continuing, Undergraduate Flinders University students only
This scheme for students is available during Semester 2 only. Applicants must be in the second or later year of an award of the University; demonstrate that the provision of the grant will assist the student to continue their enrolment in their current courses; show that other sources of financial assistance have been sought and are unavailable or inappropriate. Preference will be given to: Australian students or students with permanent residency; students who have not accessed a grant previously; students facing particular financial difficulty in continuing their studies in the second half of the year; undergraduate students. The value of individual grants awarded will not exceed $500 and will depend on the number of applications received and the individual aspects of each case. Students are required to complete an application form which is available from the Flinders Campus Community Services, and attend an interview with a Student Support & Advocacy Officer. Arthritis Australia: Scholarship

Australian Academy of the Humanities (AAH): Publication Subsidy Scheme

In accordance with this aim, the AAH includes in its activities the Publication Subsidy Scheme to provide modest financial support of up to AU$3,000 for the publication of scholarly works of high quality in the Humanities. The scheme is designed to assist Humanities scholars based in Australia. Both independent scholars and those working within an institution are eligible for the scheme. Applications are assessed by the AAH Awards Committee and rated according to academic merit and demonstrated need for a subsidy. The applicant should be able to prove that he or she has limited access to funds to complete publication of the work, or that without the subsidy the work would go either unpublished or be published in a diminished capacity.

Australian Federation of University Women: E M Hinder Award

The E M Hinder Award has a value of $6,000 and is available in any field of South East Asian studies to women postgraduate students in any Australian university who have completed at least one year of postgraduate study and to women holding a postdoctoral fellowship. The award is to be used for undertaking an overseas project, commencing in 2008 or 2009, specific to the applicant’s current research. Relevant projects could include fieldwork, archival consultation, on-site interviews. Related overseas conference participation would be acceptable as part of the project. Australian Federation of University Women : Beryl Henderson Grant

The Beryl Henderson Foundation and the Australian Federation of University women will ioffer a grant of $1250 in 2008 to assist in completion of a research project being undertaken by a female student or researcher in an Australian university. Applications are invited from women who are enrolled in postgraduate programs, or embarked on research work with publication in Australia in view. The purpose of the grant is to assist with practical aspects of research, such as intra- or interstate travel to consult library sources, or to confer with research collaborators. The grant is only available for research focusing on issues related to the rights and welfare of women and children. Australian Nuffield Farming Scholars Association: Nuffield Farm Scholarships

The Australian Nuffield Farming Scholars Association awards Scholarships each year to farmers in Australia. The preferred age for all applicants is 28 - 40, although applicants outside this range may be considered. The Scholarships are tenable for four months. The scholarship provides financial assistance to the value of $25,000 (subject to conditions) to cover costs associated with the pre-tour briefing, overseas study and living expenses during the study period. Japanese Government: Japanese Studies Scholarship - Research

Applications are open for the Michael and Deborah Thawley Scholarship in International Security at the Lowy Institute for International Policy in partnership with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. This is an exceptional opportunity for an MA or PhD student at an Australian tertiary institution to take part in the work of two leading think-tanks dedicated to generating original and policy-oriented ideas and research on world affairs. It involves a $5,000 award; a two-stage research internship, based first in Sydney and then in Washington DC; travel and living costs associated with the Washington placement; and, for a successful candidate based outside Sydney, travel and partial living costs associated with the Sydney placement. Allowances (Overseas) a living allowance of $5,000 for 3 months up to a maximum of $10,000 for 6 months, and an airfare allowance for the successful awardee of up to $2,500, will be paid for a Travelling Award held overseas; (Australia) a living allowance of $3,000 for 3 months up to a maximum of $6,000 for 6 months, and an airfare allowance for the successful awardee of up to $1,000, will be paid for a Travelling Award held in Australia.

National Breast Cancer Foundation: Research Scholarship

There are 110 scholarships available and of these at least 10 are designated for awarding to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants. There are also 20 scholarships available for enrolled nurses studying towards their Registered/Division 1 nursing qualification. This scheme provides financial assistance of $10,000 each year per applicant if studying full time or $5,000 per applicant each year if studying part time.

The Menzies Foundation: Menzies Research Scholarship in the Allied Health Sciences

The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Foundation wishes to stimulate research in the allied health sciences and is now offering up to three research scholarships in this field. The level of remuneration is $25,000 pa tax free. The purpose of the scholarship is to try to improve the health of Australians by supporting an outstanding applicant from one of the non-medical allied health disciplines, whose research is likely to fall outside the conventional areas of medical research. The award will be tenable at an Australian tertiary institution with adequate facilities for postgraduate research in the applicant's discipline. The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists: Arthur Wilson Memorial Scholarship

The Arthur Wilson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 with funds from the Arthur Wilson Memorial Foundation. The Foundation had been created in 1951 after a public appeal was launched to perpetuate the memory of the late Arthur Wilson, an outstanding gynaecologist and obstetrician. The purpose of the Scholarship is for research in any aspect of obstetrics and gynaecology and related disciplines. The research is to be conducted in Australia or New Zealand. The Scholarship is open to graduates in medicine or science. The Scholarship is for a period of two years, conditional on a satisfactory progress report six months into the Scholarship. The Scholarship is to be undertaken in a hospital, university department or research institute. Time spent undertaking the Research Fellowship may be recognised for part of the pre-Fellowship training for the FRANZCOG, or towards the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program requirements of the College for Fellows. The Beresford Buttery Travel Grant for further training in obstetrical and gynaecological ultrasound has been provided from donations to the Beresford Buttery Trust Fund, to commemorate the outstanding contribution of the late Beresford Buttery to the development of obstetrical and gynaecological ultrasound. The Fellowship shall be in the form of a grant to assist the successful applicant to travel to any country for the purpose of making a particular study of any scientific, research or clinical subject relating to the practice of obstetrical or gynaecological ultrasound. It shall not be awarded for the purpose of assisting the applicant to gain a postgraduate degree. The travel grant is open to medical graduates who are committed to a career providing obstetrical and/or gynaecological ultrasound services in Australia or New Zealand, and who are normally resident in Australia or New Zealand. The grant shall be used towards air travel/accommodation to and from the place of study to the value of $A3000. The Dontas Family Travelling Fellowships

The Greek/Australian International Legal Conference invites applications for two travelling fellowships, to attend the 12th Greek/Australian International Legal and Medical Conference, to be held on Samos, Greece (31 May - 6 June 2009). Applicants should be graduates in Law or Medicine, under 40 years of age and currently enrolled in post-graduate study within either Faculty. The successful applicants will be required to present a learned paper of some 30 minutes duration at the Conference. Papers that address the Conference theme "Our Challenged World: how can law and medicine respond" and/or Greek Australian relationships are encouraged. The Fellowships, one to a graduate in Law, one to a graduate in Medicine are in the form of a grant which will include a return Economy Class airfare from Australia to Greece (Samos), Conference registration and the cost of accommodation at the Conference venue for the duration of the Conference. Young Investigator Award

Applications are now invited for the Young Investigator Award. This Award is aimed at recognising and promoting the outstanding research performed by young investigators, as well as providing an opportunity for young researchers to present their research in a way that is readily understood by the general population. The Award provides an ideal forum for promoting media interest in the excellent and varied research at the hosting institutions and in the high quality investigators performing this research.
The finalists will be asked to present their work at the Award event on the evening of 22 October 2008. The winner of the Award will receive The Hon Carolyn Pickles Award of $10,000, including a prize of $1,000 (untied). Prizes of $3,000 (including $1,000 untied) will be awarded for the runners-up.
