The discipline of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE) is crucial for South Australia and the School has developed this discipline in line with a strong industry and government need for high quality graduates and high-end research. Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Flinders focuses on high-end technology, including robotics, computer systems, electronics and electrical engineering. All Flinders Engineering degrees have been designed in close collaboration with industry in order to meet future development needs. Students gain specialist knowledge in key areas and an integrated tool kit of skills that will enable them to meet the technical criteria required by industry and to engage professionally with on-going technical developments.
A distinctive feature of the Flinders degrees is the nationally recognised industry placement. All students have the opportunity during their degree to undertake six months in industry. This has distinguished Flinders courses from their counterparts for many years and continues to be well regarded both by industry and by the students themselves. More than 100 local, national and international companies support the program, which provides students with 20 weeks of structured industrial work experience. Students thus complete their final year of study having already gained a first-hand understanding of the role of the graduate engineer. They graduate with a proven on-the-job performance and many go on to work full-time with the company that provided their placement, or with another in the same industry.
