Disciplines within the School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics

The School contains five major disciplines under which both teaching and research occurs.

Biomedical Engineering

including all awards in biomedical engineering and the School's research that falls within the Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI).  The discipline, and the MDRI, are led by Professor Karen Reynolds.

Civil Engineering

including our new award in civil engineering.  The discipline is currently led by Professor Raja Huilgol and we have embarked on an international search for our foundation chair.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering

including awards in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer systems engineering, robotics, environmental technologies and maritime electronics and much the School's research that falls within the Centre for Maritime Engineering, Control and Imaging (CMECI).  The discipline is led by A/Professor Kenneth Pope while CMECI is led by A/Professor Karl Sammut.

Information Technology and Software Engineering

including awards in information technology, computer science, digital media and software engineering and much of the School's research that falls within the Centre for Knowledge and Interaction Technologies (CKIT). The discipline is led by Professor John Roddick while CKIT is led by Prof David Powers.

Mathematics and Statistics

including all awards in mathematics and statistics (including the majors in the BSc and the BA) and the School's research that falls within the Flinders Mathematical Sciences Laboratory (FMSL).  The discipline and the research laboratory are led by Professor Jerzy Filar.

Mechanical Engineering

including all awards in mechanical engineering and naval architecture.  The research in this discipline falls partly within the Medical Device Research Institute (MDRI) and partly within the Centre for Maritime Engineering, Control and Imaging (CMECI).  The discipline is led by Professor Mark Taylor.

Engineering Science and Technology

Some of our activities and awards span multiple disciplines and thus do not fit neatly under any current disciplines.  These include Business and Technology, Engineering Technology and Engineering Science.
