Flinders has an enviable reputation for the quality of its courses and the quality of its graduates. For example, in a recent survey, 90% of those asked described our graduates as good to excellent. Rated particularly highly was the way our students think and how quickly they contribute to an organisation.

The quality of our teaching is reflected in a recent survey of employers where Flinders graduates rated more highly than those from other universities in 16 out of 17 graduate attributes surveyed.

Industry-Oriented Courses

Flinders Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences courses are strongly industry oriented.  From our location, with industry, at Tonsley, through to the emphasis on practical, real-world practice, Flinders courses are differentiated from those elsewhere by our progmatically professional orientation.  Our goal is not just to educate the next generation of employees but the next generation of employers and business owners too.  Thus our courses are oriented towards not only the discipline itself but also a broad understanding of business and industrial practice and innovation.

For example, a distinctive feature of the Flinders Engineering awards is the nationally recognised industry placement program. More than 150 local, national and international organisations support the program, which provides students with up to 20 weeks of structured industrial work experience.  In engineering, students therefore complete their final year of study having already gained a first-hand understanding of the role of the graduate engineer.  They graduate with a proven on-the-job performance and many go on to work full-time with the company that provided their placement, or with another in the same industry.

Accredited Courses

Accreditation is important.  First, it demonstrates that the course has met the high standards set by the accrediting body.  Second, it shows that the institution is committed to continually improving the quality of the teaching it provides.  Finally, some jobs are only open to graduates of accredited awards and/or to members of professional bodies for which an accredited degree is a requirement.
