For the third time in three years, a Flinders team will represent the state in the National Engineers Without Borders Challenge.
Each year, over a 1000 teams compete in the EWB Challenge that focusses on sustainability, ethical and professional practice, the development of communication skills and strong teamwork skills. The 2011 EWB Challenge SA Showcase event was held last night with three teams, one from each of Adelaide, Flinders and UniSA, presenting their design projects in response to the Engineers Without Borders Challenge: to develop a project to assist the community of Devikulum in southern India.
The Flinders team of Claire Bandy, Joseph Bramley, Daniel Davies, Benjamin Kirss were declared the EWB Challenge SA Champion team. Their project Sustainable and Cost Effective Water Solutions addressed the vital need for clean water in the community with a simple and effective design.
As SA Champions, they will fly to Perth in a fortnight to compete at the EWB Challenge National Finals, held at the Australasian Association of Engineering Educators conference. This is the third year in a row that a Flinders team has competed in the National final, including winning the State final on both occasions that it has run.
