Why Study Science?

The Australian Council of the Deans of Science (ACDS) in their paper titled 'Why do a Science Degree?' identify a number of reasons for studying science:

There is not an oversupply of science graduates.
Graduates of science courses have much lower unemployment rates than the national average.
For the most part graduates are employed using the skills they learned, enjoy their jobs, and have average salaries in the top 10 to 20% of the workforce for their age group.
