MDPP win 2010 TIA Excellence Award
The Medical Device Partnering Program (MDPP) won the Service to the Electronics and/or ICT Industry award at the 2010 Technology Industry Association (TIA) Annual Excellence Awards Gala Dinner on Friday 29 October. Congratulations to all MDPP partners!

FMDAT Grant Success
Congratulations to Assoc/Prof. Kenneth Pope, Em/Prof. John Willoughby, Prof. David Powers and Dr. Trent Lewis on the success of their ARC Discovery Grant. The team secured $225K to go towards their project, "Enhanced brain and muscle signal seperation verified by electrical scalp recordings from paralysed awake humans".
Congratulations also to Prof. John Roddick, FMDAT Program Leader for Health Informatics, who successfully secured an ARC Linkage grant with company rL solutions. Together they have secured $163K towards their project "Techniques for active conceptual modeling and guided data mining for rapid knowledge discovery".

Karen Reynolds wins SA Professional Engineer of the Year
Congratulations to Professor Karen Reynolds who was named South Australia's Professional Engineer of the Year for 2010, at the SA Engineering Excellence Awards dinner on Friday 10 September.
The Professional Engineer of the Year award acknowledges a professional engineer who has reached a high level of achievement and involvement in engineering and community affairs and who is an example of outstanding engineering practice, ethics and contribution to the community. Read full story...
2010 SA Science Excellence Awards
Congratulations to FMDAT member, Prof Joe Shapter, who received the Tertiary Science Educator of the Year Award at the SA Science Excellence Awards. The award was announced at the Gala Dinner on Friday, August 13.

DTED - Flinders Capabilities Forum
FMDAT were invited to present our capabilities to a group of Department of Trade and Economic Development (DTED) officials. Some examples of FMDAT research were also on display.

'Show me the Money' - How to Prepare Successful Grant Applications workshop
The workshop included presentations by:
- Prof Mike Bull, Associate Head (Research), Faculty of Science & Engineering
- Prof Keryn Williams, Associate Head of Faculty (Research), Faculty of Health Science
- Ms. Chris Maher, Research Service Office
The presentations followed with a panel discussion (including Prof Phyllis Tharenou, representation by Flinders Partneres and presenters), which allowed attendees to ask questions of these experts. A networking session (with drinks and nibbles) followed.
FMDAT would like to thank all presenters involved in this event.
Medical devices on the move
It is ironic that Ann Angel had to go overseas to find out that some of the best medical devices and health services expertise in the world existed in her own backyard - at Flinders University.

2010: The new FMDAT ASRI: Carrot or Stick?
Held at the Belair Park Country Club, with an opening address by Prof. David Day (Deputy Vice Chancellor - Research), this workshop provided members with information about the FMDAT ASRI structure, research activities and the benefits of FMDAT membership. The workshop session allowed members to provide suggestions and feedback on FMDAT activities moving forward. This event provided an opportunity for members to network with each other, and at least three new potential collaborations were prompted via this networking. Thank you to all who attended the event and for your suggestions and feedback.
