Flinders Disability and Community Inclusion unit offers students hands on experience right through their degree. Placements enhance the professional development of students while providing support to people with disabilities and their communities.

Bachelor of Disability & Developmental Education

While undertaking the Bachelor of Disability and Developmental Education degree, students must successfully complete at least four practicum placements with service agencies and families. These placements require students to undertake supervised work in a range of residential, school, vocational, recreational, rehabilitation and community settings with people with a disability. It is expected that the placement agency will provide a trained and experienced member of staff who, in association with the University Supervisor, will personally supervise and be responsible for the student. The placement of students with experienced, qualified and highly competent professionals is an integral component of the course.

In the main, students undertaking practica will have completed the first year of their studies. Some students completing these practicums are enrolled in other programs such as Behavioural Science or Health Science. These students are undertaking a major in Disability and Developmental Education.
