Master of Audiology

The Master of Audiology program at Flinders University commenced in February 1998. This innovative four semester (two year full-time) course uses problem-based learning (PBL) as its main teaching/learning method.

About the Course

The course is designed to provide a comprehensive academic and clinical education in Audiology, sufficient to meet the membership requirements of the Audiological Society of Australia on graduation. It offers opportunities for supervised clinical learning in a wide range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiological settings, both in South Australia and in the Northern Territory., and practice in Primary Health Care settings, including in rural and remote areas. Students have the opportunity to complete block placements throughout the country in the second year of the course

Aspects of the curriculum with its unique PBL focus and results of some ongoing student evaluations of the program appear in a poster presented at the International Congress of Audiology in Melbourne in March 2002.

Course Format

All students must study full-time. We use problem-based learning methods and co-operative group learning techniques to teach audiological and related skills and knowledge. In this way students will obtain an understanding of the developmental, medical, psychological and acoustical theories behind audiological procedures and interventions while acquiring expertise in the clinical processes.
