Cross Cultural Conversations for visiting scholars and postgraduate students: meet people from other academic cultures

  Course Description
 

Cultural Conversations is a Student Learning Centre venture to provide visiting scholars and postgraduate students with the opportunity to talk with people from other academic cultures. These sessions focus on informal language learning, conversation practice, academic networking and development of an understanding of different cultures.

The aim is to promote cultural diversity and inclusivity throughout the University, and provide a welcoming setting for visiting scholars and students to join in a group which is interested in their culture or through which they can learn about another culture.

Each session has non-prescriptive guiding theme in which participants can learn and communicate in various languages. This might include:

  • Greetings
  • Academic conventions
  • Colloquialisms and slang
  • Activities and pastimes
  • Foods
  • Assessment conventions
