Cultural Conversations is
a Student Learning Centre venture
to provide visiting scholars and postgraduate students with the opportunity to talk with people
from other academic cultures. These
sessions focus on informal language learning,
conversation practice, academic networking and
development of an understanding of different
cultures.
The aim is to promote cultural diversity and
inclusivity throughout the University, and provide
a welcoming setting for visiting scholars and students to
join in a group which is interested in their
culture or through which they can learn about
another culture.
Each session has non-prescriptive guiding theme
in which participants can learn and communicate
in various languages. This might include:
- Greetings
- Academic conventions
- Colloquialisms and slang
- Activities and pastimes
- Foods
- Assessment conventions
