Awards and Funding Opportunities for Flinders Staff

Teaching Awards and Grants

There are a variety of awards and grants available which aim to recognise and promote teaching excellence and innovation through the University.

The Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching are presented to teaching teams and individual academic staff and award winners are offered a prize to be used to further enhance teaching excellence within the University.

The Teaching and Learning Innovations Grants Scheme is an institution-wide internal funding scheme for new developments in teaching and learning. It calls for formal applications and allocates funds competitively against specified criteria.

The Diversity Initiative Grants Scheme is an institution-wide internal funding scheme for new developments in cultural diversity and inclusive practice. It calls for formal applications and allocates funds competitively against specified criteria.

The National Awards for Teaching and Learning facilitated by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) recognise the work of leading teachers and inspire others to emulate their efforts. The Awards represent the world's biggest "prize pool" for university teaching. The winners of each Teaching Award will receive a grant of $40,000. Each Institutional Award winner will receive a grant of $50,000. The winner of the top teaching honour, the Prime Minister's Award for University Teacher of the Year, will receive an additional $35,000.

The Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) also has a range of Grants Schemes covering three programs:

* Leadership for Excellence in Learning and Teaching Program
* Priority Projects Program
* Competitive Grants Program

  • The Staff Development & Training Unit Foundations Bursaries provide funding for two staff to undertake the University's Foundation Course each year.
  • General Staff can use the General Staff Conference Scheme to apply for funding assistance to attend a conference or course provided outside of the university.
  • The Arthur Keain Staff Development Awards aims to enhance the professional development of members of the Universities general staff who wish to undertake a development activity or conference which can be demonstrated to be beneficial to them in the performance of their University duties.
  • The Study Tours Scheme provides an opportunity for general staff to obtain funding for a study tour relating to their professional duties.
