The Strategic Plan
The University's strategic planning document is Flinders Strategic Priorities and Future Directions 2006-2010 (MKIII). The document draws upon an important antecedent, the Statement of Intent, which the University adopted in 1997.
The Induction Process
If you have just started a new job at Flinders, you are probably trying to come to terms with a lot of new information, meeting new people and finding your way around both the University and our systems. To help with this the University provides an induction process, which consists of the several different elements shown below:
Key Elements of Induction
Guide for New Staff Members
The purpose of this guide is to direct you to the basic information you are likely to need in your first weeks and months at Flinders. You should receive this guide upon your arrival at Flinders, or it can be downloaded here (PDF format).
Your
Supervisor
Your supervisor is responsible for ensuring you receive the information and support you require to enable you to perform your role. Your supervisor may provide all of the information themselves, or nominate a colleague to assist. When you were appointed, your supervisor received a copy of The Supervisor’s Handbook. This contains information designed to assist in the process of inducting new staff members.
Occupational
Health and Safety Unit
The Occupational Health and Safety Unit coordinates management
of health and safety at the University.
Occupational health and safety policies, procedures and guidelines
can be accessed at the Occupational Health and Safety Unit website. A copy of the Occupational Health and Safety
Information brochure is also available online.
There is an Occupational Health and Safety Induction Checklist on the site,
which is also available in the Appendix of the Guide for New Staff Members. You and your supervisor must both read and sign it. The form will
be retained by your supervisor. Your supervisor will also ensure that you receive health and safety information specific to your workplace.
Employment
Conditions Workshop (Induction)
The Human Resources Division requires staff to:
-
Meet with a Personnel Consultant
In the first few days new staff should arrange to meet their Personnel Consultant to verify their employment at Flinders (e.g. show required documents).
-
Attend an Employment Conditions Workshop (Induction)
When meeting with their Personnel Consultant, the new staff member should arrange to attend an Induction Information Session. These short workshops run approximately every three weeks and provide important information on employment conditions such as leave, pay and entitlements and about your obligations as an employee.
Orientation Workshops
During your first three months, you are expected to participate in a number of short induction workshops organised by the Staff Development and Training Unit. The workshops deal with:
You will be automatically invited to the next programed sessions
by the Staff Development and Training Unit after your induction
by Human Resources.
