Customer Service Centre

The Customer Service Centre (CSC) provides a central point of contact for University staff with enquiries about campus-wide network or telephone support, and for desktop computer support.  Faculty staff and students should contact their Computer Representatives for computer support. The CSC is staffed from 8:30am - 5:00pm Monday to Friday. If you wish to record a fault after hours, you can do so by calling extension 12345 and recording a message or by completing the online Job Request Form

Computer Support Officers

The CSC is responsible for providing IT Help Desk Support to the following areas:

  • Central Administration
  • Faculty of Education, Humanities, Law and Theology (EHL&T)
  • those parts of the Faculty of Health Sciences located in the Sturt Buildings
  • other Organisations with whom we have a Service Level Agreement

The Library provide their own IT Help Desk Support.  Most faculties have desktop computer support available to staff members for problems specific to that area.

Computer Software
The University, at any one time, has a number of preferred suppliers for computers and software. The suppliers list changes from time to time, based on the performance of those suppliers and the pricing they can offer. An overview of some of the software used on the campus is available at the ISD website.

You can download software from this site, which will be quicker than downloading software from the Internet. For additional software requirements, contact your computer support officer.

Accessing the Flinders Network from Off-Campus

There are four ways of connecting your computer to the Flinders University network from on campus and off campus. Visit the ISD website for further information.

Statistical Consulting

A statistical consultant is available in Information Services Division to provide advice on the design and analysis of research projects. The statistical consultant also provides technical support and advice about the SPSS statistical software program. Phone extension 13346 for more information.

University Website

The University's website contains a huge amount of information and is a good starting point in any search.

Flinders News

News items can be found on the Flinders University Home Page. The Marketing and Communications Office also produces Flinders Journal, which is primarily aimed at an external audience and, in particular, media outlets.

Dealing with the Media

The Marketing and Communications Office maintains an Expert Media Guide of staff who can be contacted by the media. The Office can also provide advice on dealing with the media. Read the University Policy on Public Statements prior to dealing with the media.

Statistical Information about the University

The Planning Services Unit maintains a website with statistical information such as number and type of students, comparisons over years, numbers of staff, etc.

Information about Research at Flinders

The Office of Research produces a blog with information about changes, developments and opportunities in grants and contracts, data and statistics, publications, ethics, and Excellence in Research for Australia.
The office also maintains a website which provides links to major internal and external grant scheme application forms and guidelines; other information relevant to grant applications, such as salary scales and ethics approvals, and the annual Research Data Collection.

Security

The University Security Service seeks to provide an environment in which members of the University can feel safe and secure. Security officers patrol the University grounds 24-hours a day, and provide an after hours escort service for staff and students to assist in getting to car parks or the campus residences. (If the Loop Bus is in operation, this must be your first choice.) Security can be contacted 24-hours-a-day on extension 12880 or by using hotline phones installed across the campus.

TRAVEL TO THE UNIVERSITY

Public Transport

The University is well serviced by public transport services. An information leaflet and selected timetables on public transport services to the University are available from the Registry Reception Desk.

The Loop Bus

The University Loop Bus is a free service that runs during semester on a loop linking the northern and southern parts of the campus and connects with public transport services from the South at the Flinders Medical Centre (FMC) bus interchange. Timetable details are available from the Registry Reception.

Cycling to the University

Bike parking and shower facilities are provided throughout the University. There are three lockable bicycle stores that may be accessed by authorised users only. More information about cycling to the University can be found on this webpage. Transport SA can provide cycling maps.

Driving to the University - Parking

There are nearly 4,000 car parking spaces at Flinders. If you park your car at Flinders, you will need a parking ticket or permit. There are a variety of options: Semester or Full Year Permits, Day Permits and Short Term Parking. If you are parking at Flinders regularly, the Semester or Full Year Permit will be the most cost-effective option. An information leaflet available from Registry Reception provides information on parking at Flinders, including for persons with a disability, rideshare permits and general parking permit information.

Driving to the University - Ride Sharing

The University has established the Ride Share Scheme to encourage car drivers to car-pool. Ride Sharing benefits include cheaper parking permits, reserved parking spaces, lower travel costs and reduced pollution and traffic congestion. A brochure about the Ride Share Scheme is available from Registry Reception and the Parking Office.

ON-CAMPUS FACILITIES

Campus Community Services

With the passing of Voluntary Student Unionism (VSU) legislation by the Federal Government in 2005, the six student organisations at Flinders University: the Flinders University Union, the Sports Association, Postgraduate Students' Association (PGSA), Clubs and Societies Association (Clubs and Societies), Flinders International Students' Association (FISA) and Students' Association of Flinders University (SAFU) amalgamated to form one, unified, dedicated and campus-focused organisation; Flinders Campus Community Services, (FCCS) or Flinders One.
Flinders University has provided a package of direct and in-kind assistance to help form FCCS, a not-for-profit organisation established to enrich the life of the University community. FCCS delivers important services to students, including: student advocacy, the student employment service, student support through welfare and financial counselling, emergency loans and support, food and beverage outlets, sports and fitness clubs, clubs and societies, international student support, postgraduate student support, catering and retail shops.

Vending machines are located at the Library, Flinders Medical Centre, Anchor Court, Social Sciences, Law & Commerce, Sturt campus, Information Science & Technology Building, Plaza, Mall, Sports Centre and Tavern.

RETAIL

Retail One

Retail One, located in the Mall, stocks a wide range of magazines, stationery, computer discs, audio and video tapes, giftware, greeting cards, clothing, confectionery, tobacco products and a comprehensive range of memorabilia. It also has a laminating machine and a spiral binder. Retail One has another outlet on the Sturt campus in conjunction with Unibooks. Both shops sell The Australian, The Advertiser and Australian Financial Review at half price from Monday to Friday.

Banking

There is a National Australia Bank branch with external ATM in the Mall near the Registry and a Bank SA branch on level 4 of Flinders Medical Centre. EFTPOS facilities are available in the Flinders One Shop, FCCS Hub (Sturt), the Tavern, the Post Office and the pharmacy.

The Post Office

The Post Office is located in the Mall. Services include sale of bus tickets (which are also available from the Sturt Bookshop), and one-stop bill payment service for electricity, gas and phone with EFTPOS facilities. Cheap rates are available for international phone cards and mobile phone cards. The Post Office is an agency for many banks including Adelaide Bank, Commonwealth Bank, Members Equity, National Australia Bank, Citibank and HSBC.

Travel Agent

The STA Travel Service is located in the Mall and provides travel advice to staff and students.

OTHER SERVICES AND FACILITIES

Many other services and facilities are available, including a hairdresser, optometrist, pharmacy, and bookshops.

Child Care

Child Care centres are located at Flinders University and Flinders Medical Centre. Breastfeeding facilities are also available on campus.

Flinders Sport and Fitness

A wide variety of sport and recreational opportunities are available to staff and students at the University. The use of facilities and the co-ordination of all activities are under the supervision of staff from Flinders Sport & Fitness (extension 12842). The facilities include a sports hall, squash, tennis, badminton, & volleyball courts. Social Sports including Basketball, Netball, Indoor Soccer & Touch. Fully equipped gym & cardio rooms. Group Fitness classes including Les Mills' BODY ATTACK, BODY PUMP, BODY BALANCE & RPM plus other classes such as CARDIO BLAST, STEP, PILATES & YOGA. Flinders Sport & Fitness also hire out the playing fields, eg. soccer & football ovals plus the baseball oval. There are also 40 sporting and non sporting clubs that staff, students or the public can join. Just contact Flinders Sport & Fitness for the club contact details.

Health Service

The Health Service is a fully equipped and accredited medical centre, providing a wide range of medical services. It is located on Level 3 of the Student Centre and open from 8:45am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Security can drive injured staff or students to the Health Service or Flinders Medical Centre (if an ambulance is not required), and all Security staff are trained First Aiders. The Health Service is available to all students and staff on the Flinders campus, although at busy times preference for appointment bookings will be given to students. To make an appointment phone extension 12118.

Accommodation Service

The Flinders Housing Accommodation Service is a free service for students and staff of the University. The Service provides up-to-date lists of flats, units, houses, shares and full board accommodation within easy commuting distance from the University. Information sheets on rent relief, emergency bond, public transport, and tenancy rights and obligations are also available from the service. Temporary accommodation information is also available.

Oasis: Faith, Spirit, Community
Oasis is located in the Mall. The centre operates as a Multi-faith community, made up of members from a variety of religious and spiritual traditions. The Muslim Prayer Rooms are located on the southern side of the centre. Email oasis@flinders.edu.au or go to the website for more information.

Alumni Association

The Alumni Association is the University's formal link with graduates and former staff. Its role is to encourage social and professional contact, and give graduates an opportunity to contribute to the future development of the University. All graduates automatically become part of the Alumni network and are encouraged to update their contact details regularly to receive electronic and printed material.
