Teaching Evaluation at Flinders

The Flinders University Education Policy outlines principles for effective teaching and learning in undergraduate, honours and postgraduate courses. These principles about teaching, and the design and management of a program of study form the guiding framework for design of the student, self evaluation and peer evaluation of teaching tools.

Evaluation of Teaching

The Policy on Evaluation of Teaching and Learning provides a framework within which appropriate process for the evaluation of academic staff teaching by students and peers may be used. This policy should guide all evaluation.

Flinders University has a standard instrument for gathering data from students about their response to teaching, of supervision and of topics known as Student Evaluation of Topics/Topics (SET). These are administered by the Centre for Learning and Professional Development at Adelaide University.

Evaluation of Course or Topic

A national mechanism, Course Experience Questionnaire (CEQ), also is used by the University to survey graduates who have just completed their course.

Performance Review

Key princilples related to Evaluation of Teaching can be found at http://www.flinders.edu.au/ppmanual/education/edu.review.htm. It is expected that staff will be reviewed through mechanisms of peer (and/or supervisior ) review of teaching and student evaluation of teaching. Evidence of such process is required as part of the promotion and performance review processes.
