What is a Police Clearance Certificate?
- Certificate contains offence history.
- List of all offences in all courts.
- Spent conviction legislation: if a person is convicted of an offence in the magistrates court, if that person commits no further offences, the conviction will be deleted from the person’s record after 10 years. If the person commits a further offence, the record will remain.
- Convictions in the Children’s Court will not show up on certificate after 5 years.
- Any offence for which the penalty is a fine of $10,000 or 2.5 years imprisonment is never erased from the record.
Why might one be required?
- Staff and students undertaking activities in schools are required to clear a police check.
- Depending on the industry, you might want to be certain that the person is a fit and proper person to be doing that job or to be placed in that workplace.
As a Placement Supervisor, do I have to get them for all my students?
- YES if the placement will be conducted in a school.
- Policies and procedures for other workplaces will vary according to the Faculty/School policies.
Is there a cost?
- $30 to $45 fee.

- 7 to 14 working days
