TheOffice of Learning and Teaching (OLT) offers annual national awards which recognise and celebrate quality and excellence in university teaching and learning (whether by individuals or teams).
There are five types of awards:
- Prime Minister's Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year
- Awards for Teaching Excellence
- Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning
- Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning
- Career Achievement Award
Prime Minister's Award for Australian University Teacher of the Year "is selected from the recipients of Teaching Awards. It is given to one academic with an exceptional record of advancing student learning, educational leadership and scholary contributions to learning and teaching."
OLT Awards for Teaching Excellence "give recognition to teachers (individuals and teams) renowned for the excellence of their teaching, who have outstanding presentation skills and who have made a broad contribution to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching in higher education".
OLT Awards for Programs that Enhance Learning "recognise learning and teaching support programs and services that make an outstanding contribution to the quality of student learning and the quality of the student experience of higher education."
OLT Citations for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning "recognise and reward the diverse contributions that individuals and teams make to the quality of student learning. Open to academic staff, general staff, sessional staff and institutional associates (full-time or factional, continuing or contract) who have made significant contributions to student learning in a specific area of responsibility over a sustained period" (at least three years).
Support for applicants
At Flinders, the Administrative Officer, Teaching Awards and Grants coordinates and manages all OLT nominations for the University on behalf of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). Institutional timelines apply to all OLT applications - applicants are advised to refer to these timelines and notify the Project Officer by email: olt@flinders.edu.au of their intention to apply.
