What are they?
You can make a single page, or set of pages which are linked by embedded links (rather than using a Learning Module).
Possible uses
Strengths
- Consolidate information and links into one page.
- Allows for different levels of background knowledge.
- Students can see how concepts are linked (eg. give them access to your concept map).
Limitations
- Students can get ‘lost'.
- No consistent navigation between topics.
Tips for use
- Only use about 2 screens worth of writing per page.
- If using hypertext, make sure there is information about how to get back.
- Site maps are sometimes useful for navigation purposes (they can double as concept maps).
- Make sure there is information on every page.
- Cycling through menus can be very frustrating. Try to limit the number of steps in a navigation path.
- When creating the link to the page, or set of pages, use a consistent approach to opening link (ie open in a new window or the same window).
- Make sure you give students access back to the Topic page.
A series of online tutorials are available that provide information on using the tools and features of FLO. You can access the tutorials and use them at your own pace.
