Flinders has always regarded its commitment to access and equity as one of its defining characteristics.
Planning and monitoring
The Education section of Inspiring Flinders Future - Flinders University Strategic Plan 2010 - 2014 provides details of our planning for access and equity.
Monitoring occurs through reporting requirements established by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) through its Institution Assessment Framework (IAF) process.
Access and equity are supported through a range of initiatives, including:
- special entry programs
- separate entry quotas
- development of access programs and relationships with high schools aimed at recruiting under-represented groups
- strategic relationships with the southern suburbs of Adelaide, TAFE and Indigenous communities
- initiatives in rural communities.
Action Plan and Practice Statement
Flinders has adopted a Cultural Diversity and Inclusive Practice Statement.
Tools and grants
In 2005 a Cultural Diversity and Inclusive Practice Toolkit was developed, and the Flinders Diversity Initiative Grants Scheme was established to support projects relating to cultural diversity. Grants are awarded to support new initiatives designed to advance cultural diversity and/or inclusive practices at Flinders in one of the following areas:
- leadership and administration
- university community.
