Support for academic staff

The Academic Development Section of the Staff Development and Training Unit is responsible for supporting academics and Sessional Teachers in their research and in their teaching practice. Academic developers within the unit offer this support in a number of ways:

Workshops

Scheduled programs to support academics in their teaching take the form of facilitated workshops and discussion forums. Courses are offered in the following areas:

  • lecturing and tutoring skills
  • teaching strategies
  • assessment
  • curriculum design
  • flexible education
  • evaluating and documenting teaching
  • early career researcher programs

Long term programs

There are a number of long term programs that are managed through the Academic development section. These include:

  • Internship / Preparing Future Academics
  • Flinders University Leadership program

Required programs

The following programs are compulsory for new academic staff:

  • Flinders Foundations of University teaching
  • Program for new research Higher Degree supervisors
  • Science Demonstrators program
  • Practicum Management

Teaching related projects

The unit provides information about locally and nationally funded teaching related projects and links to relevant sites.

Resources

The unit hosts a variety of resources, both physical and online, as a result of a variety of projects undertaken by the unit.
