Admission into MAUD-Master of Audiology

The topic aims to provide students with knowledge of: the anatomy, physiology and normal development of the human auditory system, basic pathology with particular reference tothe auditory system, the genetics of hearing loss, at an introductory level, the epidemiology and major causes of hearing loss, acoustic and statistical principles underlying behavioural tests and acoustic measures, psychological principles underlying hearing and its measurement, acoustical, linguistic and other characteristics of human communication, normal communication development in children. The topic will also introduce critical appraisal and evidence based practice.

The topic aims to provide students with knowledge of:

• the structure, function and normal development of the human auditory system at all levels of organisation

• basic pathology with particular reference to the auditory system

• the genetic bases of hearing loss, at an introductory level

• the prevalence of hearing loss

• acoustic and statistical principles underlying behavioural tests and acoustic measures

• psychological principles underlying hearing and its measurement

• acoustical, linguistic and other characteristics of human communication

• the progress of normal communication development in children

• procedures for measuring sounds in the environment and measuring audiometer output.

Students will demonstrate knowledge and proficiency with regard to the scientific and clinical principles and practices of audiology as introduced through the Semester 1 Problem Based Learning cases
