Topic description
This topic introduces students to generic aspects of clinical practice as a health professional as well as areas more specific to audiology. This introductory topic (1 of 2) will provide conceptual foundations and develop skills, such as clinical interviewing and giving information. Core elements include: oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, fundamentals of client focused practice, raising awareness in the student practitioner of issues such as noise, tinnitus and the Deaf Community. The topic links directly to the concurrent clinical topic and through keeping a regular reflective journal the student will develop skills in observing and recording clinical activity and reflecting on and interpreting what they see and are involved with in rostered internal and external clinics. Personal development in relation to professional practice will be fostered through the clinical journal with students examining professional roles and learning more about themselves, their values and attitudes.
