Topic description
This topic introduces students to the field of marine biology. It includes an introduction to the science of marine biology, an overview of marine organisms, an introduction to marine ecosystems and major resources from the sea, and principles of marine conservation and management. The tutorials and practicals develop generic skills in research, analysis and communication as applied to topical issues in marine biology. The practicals also provide students with first hands on experience with marine organisms and sampling techniques during local fieldtrips. Both tutorials and practicals develop students' communication and written skills in the context of marine biology.

This topic aims to provide a supportive and stimulating environment in which students:
