Topic description
This topic assists students to develop a global outlook on business and other management. The focus is on managerial responses to complex cultural, political, economic, competitive and other contextual forces firms encounter when they engage in international business activities. The content includes aspects of organisational design, strategic planning, negotiation, and human resources management for firms involved in international business.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to provide students with the ability to:
  1. Identify and analyse the distinctive features of international management roles
  2. Examine the internal and external influences on management of international organisations
  3. Understand the concepts and tools used in international business management
  4. Appreciate the basics of international negotiation
  5. Develop skills in cross-cultural managerial competence
  6. Effectively design and run meetings.
Expected learning outcomes
Students completing the topic should be able to:
  • use the case study method to identify, analyse and suggest solutions to international management problems in specific cases
