Topic description
This topic will cover reward theory: content and process theories, the design of salary and wage systems aligned to business strategy, equality and equity, performance related pay, job design and work organisation, job evaluation, performance appraisal, objective setting and giving feedback, dealing with poor performance
Educational aims
This topic aims to provide students with a complete understanding of the components of the performance management cycle and the link to strategic objectives.
Expected learning outcomes
On successful completion of this topic students should be able to:
  • advise on the design and implementation of appropriate reward policies aligned to organisational objectives
  • analyse and redesign an existing job set to improve performance and employee satisfaction
  • conduct an appraisal interview, and give sensitive feedback, including the setting of SMART objectives
  • advise on appropriate corrective and disciplinary approaches to deal with poor performance.
