Course context
This topic is part of the requirements for accreditation of the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, therefore is core to the BCom (Accounting) Hong Kong program.

Only available to students enrolled in Hong Kong.
Topic description
There are 3 components in the course:

(a) The legal system of Hong Kong

(b) Business law of Hong Kong

(c) Company law of Hong Kong

As the course is intended to be an introductory course, only the essential aspects of business law and company law will be examined. These aspects are to be stated in the content summary and they are sufficient for students to have basic knowledge of how the law and business interact in Hong Kong. Legal research skills are to be taught in the beginning of the course.
Educational aims
This course aims at providing students with basic knowledge of some essential Hong Kong laws. The students can know the interaction between law and business. As the course concerns business law and company law, the students can know more about the rights of the consumers and shareholders in Hong Kong.
Expected learning outcomes
  1. Learn the legal system of Hong Kong.
  2. Learn some essential elements of business law in Hong Kong, including how the rights of the consumers are protected by law.
  3. Learn some essential elements of company law in Hong Kong, including how the rights of the shareholders are protected by law.
  4. Learn how to conduct legal research, in particular how to find court cases and legislation from the web.
  5. Analyse the important court cases and the legislation relating to the course.
  6. Develop good writing and presentation skills.
