Topic description
The topic is concerned with the management and security of networks. Areas covered include: cryptography concepts and applications, computer forensics, network threats, security protocols, application of security concepts in specific contexts, attack and defence mechanisms, current security research topics.
Educational aims
Students will gain an understanding of the issues associated with implementing and maintaining network security, and the issues of securing both wired & wireless networks. In addition, it will provide practical experience in both attacking and defending a network, and the fundamentals of cryptography as it applies to network security. Students will also report on current trends and issues in network security.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of this topic, students are expected to be able to:
