Topic description
This topic provides students with the opportunity to extend their professional writing skills through applying them to real world situations, through an extended project. These projects allow students to explore a range of roles and contexts in the communication industries, and to examine their own interests and strengths within these. The project may include working with industry representatives.

The precise nature of each project is to be developed in conjunction with the topic coordinator.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • allow students to explore ways in which theoretical skills can apply to employment scenarios
  • provide students with an understanding of working in the communication industries
  • develop students’ understanding of the skills, knowledge and attitudes required in the communication industries
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic students will be able to:

  • apply techniques and skills acquired in the degree in a professional context
  • evaluate their own role in a professional setting
  • analyse strengths and weakness of their chosen project
  • communicate issues related to their industry context, both verbally and in writing
